Godfall Gameplay is Made for the New PS5 Controller | Game Rant

Godfall developer Counterplay Games reveals how the game's gameplay works well with the PS5's hardware. The announcement of Godfall as a PS5 launch title was one of the biggest surprises from The Game Awards 2019, and the developers have shared some more information since.

Speaking to PlayStation LifeStyle, Counterplay Games CEO and Godfall's creative director Keith Lee confirmed that the PS5's SSD and its new controllers will help the game be the best that it can be. The PS5's SSD, which will help games to load much faster, "offers a new level of detail for each individual object" which could be incredibly important looking at the detail of the character armor in the announcement trailer. It will also offer "seamless loading of our expansiveness world," said Lee.

The new PS5 controller also makes Godfall's gameplay feel better, said the developer. Godfall's combat is "kinesthetic" which means that it is big on movement and the characters' positions. The GIFs of Godfall gameplay also confirm that the combat will mostly be melee. Lee said that the adaptive triggers on the new controller and the haptic technology "will make moment-to-moment combat feel exhilarating and visceral" which is just PR jargon for saying that it will feel really good.

Not much of Godfall was seen at The Game Awards, but fans seem to like what they have seen and heard about the game from Counterplay. Counterplay and Gearbox have also called Godfall a looter slasher game with co-op gameplay which suggests that it will be the type of game that players can spend hours enjoying with their friends. Some have also wondered if Godfall could be the next Destiny. The game is around a year away from releasing and it's difficult to say if it will be as popular as Destiny, but Godfall does seem to have all of the makings of a successful game.

It could potentially prove to be a great PS5 launch title. Console launch titles are gamers' first idea of how the console's hardware and features work with games. It's why PS4 launch titles used features such as the DualShock 4's touchpad for gameplay, though this feature isn't used for much more than a map button now. If Godfall is going to be a large game that uses the PS5's SSD and if it has gameplay that uses the controller's haptic technology, it could help to show everyone why the PS5 is a console they should get.

Godfall is coming to PC and PS5 in late 2020.
