Pro Fortnite Player Aydan Conrad Pays Off Mom's Student Loan Debt

Twitch streamer and competitive Fortnite player Aydan has been very successful in his pro gaming career. The 20-year-old has made over $150,000 in tournament winnings, which likely pales in comparison to his Twitch subscriptions and donations.

Some might wonder what does a young, successful Fortnite player like Ayden does with his winnings. The answer, apparently, is to pay off his mother's student loans live on his Twitch stream.

This past week, Ayden livestreamed a phone call with his mother to hundreds of viewers. Ayden tells his mother in the phone call that he has paid off all of her student loans. His mother is at first unbelieving, questioning whether Ayden could even legally do such a thing. When Ayden insists that it's true, his mother bursts into tears. When she regains the composure, Ayden insists she instead thank his Twitch stream viewers. Still half-crying, Ayden's mother says thank you and tells Ayden's viewers to type "!sub" or "!prime."

Ayden's interactions with his mother proved to be a heartfelt moment on a platform that rarely explores sincerity. His mother's reaction was very real and Ayden's joy at being able to help and support his mother was also quite touching. At one point, Ayden even says, "I'm shaking, I can't even talk right now." Ayden's viewers, very much in the moment, fill his chat with all manner of heart-shaped Twitch emotes, tears, and loving messages.

While some could say that Ayden's decision to livestream the phone call is somewhat cynical, his words made clear that was never his intent. Ayden saying that his Twitch subscribers and fans were who should be thanked was a genuine message of appreciation to his fans. To share such a personal moment with his audience shows how much his viewers must mean to him.

Ayden's success as a pro gamer and Twitch streamer is unquestionable, ever since he burst onto the scene in late 2018. He's currently in a bit of a lull, averaging fewer viewers now than when he started. That's partially due to the waning popularity of Fortnite on Twitch, as well as the increased volume of other Fortnite streamers. Regardless of his future as a professional streamer, Ayden did something very meaningful for his mother; something more important than Fortnite or streaming.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
