Hilarious Video Shows What Parenting is Like in Skyrim
Originally released in 2011, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim needs no introduction. The game features a massive open landscape and a dynamic living world set within the titular northern province of Skyrim.
Chilling cold, roaming beasts, and an ongoing civil war doesn't make living in Skyrim easy for any of its inhabitants. While living there may be challenging at best, players can only imagine how difficult it would be to try and raise a family with children in the Nords' mountainous homeland.
Youtuber Cor Canish has created a video imagining what it would be like to try to be a hardworking parent in Skyrim. After being attacked by bandits, dragons, giants, and all manners of creatures, a live-action Cor returns home battered and tired to his home. His daughter, Lucia, lovingly welcomes him home before offering him a gift, which Cor gratefully accepts. He looks down with curiosity at his hand and sees a black soul gem. Lucia casually walks away and Cor nervously screams as the clip cuts to black.
In Skyrim's extensive lore, a black soul gem is an item that can capture and contain the soul of a human then used to enchant a weapon or armor. Black soul gems are always grand soul gems, and therefore quite powerful. Lucia handing Cor a black soul gem implies that she killed someone and captured their soul into the gem. Her reaction being so nonchalant only adds to the dark comedy. The humorous video has received a highly positive reaction on YouTube, earning over seven hundred likes despite only having five thousand views. Commenters are praising the video editing and comedic timing of the clip.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is so beloved within the RPG gaming community that it is about to receive yet another release to celebrate its tenth anniversary this coming November. The new Skyrim Anniversary Edition brings Bethesda’s legendary RPG to next-generation consoles with graphical and performance updates as well as new features, such as fishing.
Of course, fans would love to get their hands on the much anticipated Elder Scrolls 6, which was first teased with a short trailer back in 2018. However, the title has received very little news since then and has yet to be given a confirmed release date. Thankfully, Skyrim’s vast amount of content, extensive modding support, and creative community including members like Cor Canish, makes the wait much more bearable.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The next-gen version is set to release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 11th, 2021.
