The Elder Scrolls Online: Murkmire will explain Argonian weirdness with history

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to take us to the Argonian homeland in the Murkmire DLC, giving us a deeper look at the lizard folks in their native lands. Argonians are quite a bit different from most of Tamriel’s races, and not just because of their reptilian skin. The people’s strangeness is something of a meme among Elder Scrolls fans, and at Gamescom we asked director Matt Firor exactly why that is. “This is the first time people have seen Argonians in Argonian culture - and they’re weird,” Firor says. “I don’t how else to put it. Their philosophy is very much ‘now.’ Live today, don’t worry about tomorrow, but especially don’t worry about the past.” That desire to stay in the now puts them directly at odds with your quest in Murkmire. “The story, of course, is they have to worry about the past. It’s like Indiana Jones, you’re trying to find an artifact from the history of Black Marsh. And the Argonians really don’t care. They don’t want to help you, because what’s passed is past, and they’re just worried about today.”
