Now you can see Dota 2’s loot box odds in-game

Dota 2’s loot box-style treasure system has come under legal fire in certain regions, and it looks like Valve aims to make those purchases a little bit friendlier. A new patch now allows you to see drop rates for each item rarity before you buy, and it’ll even dynamically adjust that display based on shifting odds as you open more boxes. The main thrust of this update is the debut of the Treasure of the Carmine Cascade, but Valve says “We’ve also taken this opportunity to simplify and rework the way we calculate escalating odds for this treasure and going forward. You can now click on the escalating odds arrow next to each of the rare, very rare, or extremely rare drops to see the exact odds of receiving them based on how many you’ve already opened.” You can read further details on the update on the official site. It’s not quite as extensive as the loot box changes in the Netherlands, where you can now see exactly what’s in a box before you buy it. The changes in this update don’t appear to address any specific legal concerns - at least none that we’re aware of - but are likely intended to more generally address concerns over loot boxes.
