Fortnite Chapter 2 Patch Notes Reveal Battle Royale Fixes

Epic Games just released its first patch for Fortnite's Chapter 2, Season 1 update, revealing its initial alterations to what is potentially the biggest update in the game's history. Patch v11.01 itself is fairly small, but it stands to reason that a gargantuan chunk of new content like Chapter 2 would need quick follow-up adjustments.

On October 15, Fortnite underwent a permanent—and extremely dramatic—transformation, two days after Chapter 1's "The End" event obliterated the previous map and left nothing but a black hole. Once the new Fortnite went live, there was a whole new world to discover, complete with gameplay tune-ups detailed in the just-revealed patch notes.

The newly-launched patch went into effect earlier today, and Epic posted the changes to its Fortnite Trello page—which the company uses to not only publish recent changes to the game but also to keep players appraised of plans for future updates. Patch v11.01 made most of its changes to Battle Royale, fixing issues including the Daily Punchcard remaining on-screen, the “Ready Up!” button only appearing in matches after the entire party is down, and missing gift wrap on gifted Battle Passes.

Another fix addressed the Open Water Challenge; specifically, solving an issue with the “get an elimination from 50m or further” objective since Fortnite now features a swimming mechanic. The final major change was to solve the issue of characters being unable to use a swapped-to item when backed up against the camera.

Clearly, the patch tweaks are small-time compared to everything in Fortnite's recent history, but they should make things easier for players nonetheless. Patch v11.01 also made some changes across other game modes, as was predicted by data miners, which included addressing a number of general FPS issues on PC. Data miners also tracked down the details on Fortnite's Halloween plans before they even launched (as per usual), so players can expect the return of skull and ghoul trooper skins in the near future--and even now, a strange Fortnite glitch is turning players into the equivalent of dementors. But when it comes to Battle Royale mode specifically, Epic is keeping its changes simple so far.

Some fans may have been hoping for a more substantial patch to accompany the big Chapter 2 update, but that isn't likely until Fortnite players spend a little more time in the world. For most people taking their first forays into the new Fortnite, there are still plenty of landmarks to visit and Mythic Goldfish to catch.

Fortnite is available to play now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
