How Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Vehicle Customization Works

The official Bandai Namco US Twitter account released some new information on the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. The tweet displays a short video detailing how the game's vehicle system will work.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, players will have the ability to ride a variety of different vehicles across the world map (or at least West City). Players can craft their potential rides by collecting any spare parts they come across during their journey and handing them off to Bulma when they have the chance to visit her.

Bulma will offer the player three different options: R&D (Research and Development), Customization, and "Level Up." The R&D option will allow players to use the spare parts that they've collected to create both their vehicles and the chips that power them. Players can choose from two types of transport: Robo Walkers and Hover Cars. Robo Walkers have better mobility than Hover Cars and can jump, but Hover Cars are much faster. As for the chips, they should be thought of as engines; players will need to craft and install them into whatever vehicles they create to use them — the more powerful the chip, the more efficient the ride.

To install their chips, players will need to go to the Customization menu. Here, they'll also be able to change the color of their selected vehicles. Currently, the only known choices are red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, blue, purple, pink, black, and white, but there may be some unique designs that players can earn by completing in-game activities. Finally, the Level Up menu allows players to use whatever leftover spare parts they have to upgrade and power up their chosen vehicles. Things like Iron Ore and even Giant Fish Teeth can be used to level up vehicles and increase stats such as Acceleration, Battery, and Power (Jump Power in the case of Robo Walkers). If a player has trouble locating the parts they need for their vehicles, they can visit some shifty-looking traders and get the parts off of them.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the most ambitious RPG to retell Goku's (Kakarot's) story. The game will cover pretty much everything within the Dragon Ball Z saga and more. This vehicle mechanic is proof of that as it's supposed to be a reference to a popular Dragon Ball Z filler episode.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be out on January 17, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
