New Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Poster Revealed | Game Rant
In the last month, the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has gone from an affront to humanity in the eyes of the internet to something a lot of people are actually excited for, all thanks to the more faithful redesign of Sonic revealed in November. As strange as it may have sounded six months ago, fans are now eager to see get any new glimpse of the cartoony blue hedgehog that they can. Lucky for them then that a glimpse has made its way online.
Down in Brazil, Comic Con Experience (CCXP), the world’s largest pop-culture convention, is taking place this week, and Sega and Paramount Pictures are there to hype up the movie’s release in two months’ time. Among the slew of marketing materials they brought with them was a new poster for Sonic the Hedgehog, as shared by Tails’ Channel on Twitter, offering a fresh look at the new version of Sonic.
Being that it’s just a poster, it doesn’t reveal much in the way of new information pertaining to the movie itself. What we get instead is an image of Sonic sitting on top of a traffic light with headphones airound his neck and a magazine in hand, while a blue streak weaves around the buildings that fll out the background, suggesting he’d just passed through at supersonic speed.
Judging from those buildings, it appears the city is supposed to be San Francisco, which is a fitting choice, given how San Francisco and the wider California coastline helped inspire the aesthetic of the original Sonic the Hedgehog and later games in the series like Sonic Adventure 2. The hilly landscape of the city might also explain why the traffic light Sonic is sitting on appears to be so high up.
While the poster may be in Portuguese, the official language of Brazil, that hasn’t stopped fans in the English-speaking parts of the world from welcoming it with open arms, with many on social media declaring their preference for this one over the more action-packed poster Paramount released alongside the Sonic’s movie’s latest trailer. By all accounts, then, it appears that the poster does its job of getting people excited for a movie that, up until very recently, no one wanted to see.
Sonic the Hedgehog premieres in theaters on February 14, 2020.
