No Man's Sky Update Adds Music Creation Tool | Game Rant

Players of No Man’s Sky now have access to another exciting tool to personalize their planetary bases. With update 2.24, developer Hello Games has added the ability for gamers to create music and add sounds to their personal abodes.

Explorers in No Man’s Sky spend a large amount of time in the game building and customizing their bases. The ability to add music is one of the most frequent requests received by Hello Games. So for the past several weeks, a coder at the studio became completely absorbed in developing a full-fledged audio creation tool dubbed the ByteBeat Device.

The ByteBeat Device is like any other asset that players can use to decorate their base. To gain access to it, players must first learn the module’s blueprints from the Space Anomaly and then they can construct it where they see fit. Once positioned, the ByteBeat will automatically begin to procedurally generate sounds created from simple waveforms and algorithms. All of the math can be handled behind the scenes and gamers don’t have to understand any of it to enjoy the music.

If so inclined, however, audiophiles with a bit more technical savvy can lift the lid, so to speak, of the ByteBeat and create their own music. No Man’s Sky would-be musicians can use the Sequencer UI to build note sequences, add rhythm tracks, and adjust the tempo, octave, and key of created music. For those who want to delve even deeper, there is the Advanced Waveform UI, which allows players to manipulate the raw sounds and fine tune the math behind the waveforms. Handcrafted music can then be shared with other players.

Update 2.24 also adds the ByteBeat Switch, which allows players to sync up with and power other devices, such as lights. The lights will sync with the rhythm of the music, paving the way for creative players to build some eye-catching light shows.

In addition to the ByteBeat device, update 2.24 added a few other fun elements to the game. The Space Anomaly teleporter now has a Featured section, which allows the Hello Games developers to spotlight particularly impressive player constructions on a rotating basis. And new weekend missions have also been added to the game, giving players the opportunity to earn some Quicksilver rewards.

No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
