Tetris 99 Update Adds Team Battle Mode | Game Rant
Nintendo has recently announced that an additional online mode will be included in the latest update for Tetris 99. This new mode is titled Team Battle Mode and will be the primary mode that is played during the tenth Maximus Event, which begins later today at 11 P.M. PT and will end on December 16th.
Following the release of the Ver 2.1.0 update for Tetris 99, players will now get the chance to enjoy a brand new online mode called Team Battle Mode. This new mode still features ninety nine players, but it splits the players up into four teams. These teams will go to head to head with each other and the last team with at least one surviving player wins the round.
The Team Battle Mode features many of the same core mechanics of the original Tetris 99 online mode by way of having players endure and outlast each other. However, with the addition of team based gameplay, it gives players a better chance of winning and gaining experience, due to the fact they are on a team with over 20 other players. With the addition of the paid DLC that allows players to compete offline that was released back in May of this year, Tetris 99 has become a game that is absolutely rich in content for players to enjoy.
Some could say that this new mode for Tetris 99 is nothing but a rehash of previous modes found in the game, which to an extent is somewhat true. The goal of Team Battle Mode is to have your team persevere until it is the last team standing, which is nearly identical in principal to the standard mode. Not to mention the fact that the concept of battle royale style gameplay has extended to all kinds of different genres within the world of video gaming. So much so in fact, that following the release of Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch, an additional battle royale style Tetris game called Tetris Royale was released on mobile devices back in March of 2019.
Then again, the popularity and relevancy of the Tetris franchise has always been well-deserved. Tetris is the kind of game that can always bring people together due to its simplicity and addictive nature. The continued success of Tetris 99 is proof of this notion.
