Witcher Characters That Need To Appear In Season 2 | Game Rant
Netflix’s The Witcher has quickly become a popular show among the streaming platform’s viewers (even to the point of outpacing Disney’s The Mandalorian). With the first season having been fully available to stream for a month now, many fans of the CD Projekt Red games (as well as fans of the original novels by Andrzej Sapkowski for which the products are based on) are wondering just which characters from The Witcher lore will eventually make their appearance in the second season of the Netflix show.
There are many characters to imagine but a select few are likelier than others for reasons relating to the novels. The way they were released has an influence on the story of the Netflix show. Note: This article contains spoilers for Netflix’s The Witcher.
The first season of Netflix's The Witcher featured many of the same story beats primarily found within the first two novels of The Witcher series (technically the first two entries are collections of stories whereas the rest of the series is made up of novels). The eight episode season was based off of The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny which lead up to the start of what is known as The Witcher Saga. The story within the next entry, Blood of Elves, is likely to be the basis of the second season of the show. Here are some of the characters that could show up.
Vesemir is all but guaranteed to be featured in the second season of Netflix’s The Witcher. In episode eight, after Geralt was injured and experienced a series of hallucinations, one of the voices he heard was presumably that of Vesemir’s. Considering the moment happened in the last episode of the season, this is pretty much setting up Vesemir’s appearance in the second season. In Blood of Elves, Geralt takes Ciri to Kaer Morhen, the isolated keep where Witchers like Geralt were trained and magically mutated into to become what Geralt is - a super powered monster slayer. This is also where Ciri starts her training.
He has not been cast yet but Mark Hamill has shown interest in playing Vesemir in season two of the show. There are other actors that could pull it off too, but Hamill would be a great choice.
One aspect of The Witcher that was not focused on was the occupation of Witcher itself. There are many Witchers, but the show mainly focuses on Geralt. meaning basically none of the other notable Witchers from the novels (or games) make any appearance in the Netflix show. Following the logic that the second season is likely to be based off of Blood of Elves, more Witchers are bound to make appearances on the show once Geralt takes Ciri back to the witcher’s keep, Kaer Morhen. She eventually begins her training there and is aided by two of Geralt and Vesemir’s allies, Eskel and Lambert.
With Eskel and Lambert in the mix, it will be interesting to see how Geralt interacts with other Witchers on the show which is something he has not done so far (not counting his meeting with the corpse of another Witcher). It will be even more interesting to see how he behaves with people he potentially considers friends other than Jaskier.
Shani is a field medic that served in the Redanian army and is one of the characters that helps Geralt in finding a rogue mage. Notably, she becomes one of Geralt’s love interests in the novel series. This also translates into the CD Projekt Red games, although her brief romance with Geralt is treated as an optional storyline in both 2007’s The Witcher and in the expansion pack, Hearts of Stone, for The Witcher 3. The Netflix show does take some liberties in interpreting the story of the novels, so it is possible that Shani’s role becomes more significant if and when she appears in season two.
Perhaps the second most important sorceress throughout the story of The Witcher novels, Philippa Eilhart quickly becomes a significant character on the continent and is known to be the leader of the founder and leader of the lodge of sorceresses. She is recognizable by her lack of eyes which were taken by the dastardly King Radovid. Her personality is almost entirely based on vengeance and a lust for power, especially after losing her eyes to Radovid, for which she becomes hell bent on getting revenge by killing him. Her hunger for power is even greater than Yennefer’s, who went on a similar power trip throughout season one of the show.
Netflix’s The Witcher is available now.
