Activision Releases New Call of Duty: Warzone Behind the Scenes Video
As gamers all over the world are sequestered away, Call of Duty: Warzone seems to have come at a perfect time. The long-rumored and awaited battle royale has arrived and is considered a must-play game by many.
While Activision was silent about Warzone during development, they have since released a behind the scenes overview of the free-to-play experience that dives deep into what makes the game special.
In the video, the developers claim that this is a new era in Call of Duty, putting an emphasis on this being the first free-to-play Call of Duty game for the Infinity Ward and Raven Software teams. They loved the idea of playing in a huge open world, while still preserving the classic Call of Duty feel. They also wanted to maintain the cross-play used in Modern Warfare, even as streamers like Shroud have mentioned that cross-play is unfair in Warzone.
The developers wanted to make sure that Warzone was different than other battle royales. While they have enjoyed the genre, they wanted to put their own spin on it, and that they did. They added an in-game currency system, a unique respawn mechanic, and contracts that can be accomplished in the middle of a match. All of these things help Warzone stand-out from other battle royales.
One of the innovations is the Gulag, a place where players have a second chance to return to the battlefield upon dying. There are a few ways to outsmart the opponent in the Gulag, but the idea that players aren't instantly dead for good, and stuck simply spectating their buddies for the rest of the game, is part of what makes it distinctive.
The video itself is explosive, colorful, and dynamic, much like the experiences in the game itself. Trying to survive in Warzone is more than skill, it takes teamwork, a plan, and strategy. It also takes a proper loadout, which is something else that is innovative in the game. Having the best loadout in Warzone can be the difference between victory and defeat.
The developers also mention in the video that Warzone will continue to evolve, which is something fans should be happy to hear. Recently a solo mode was added, a rumored high-action mode may be on the way, and more guns are being added to Warzone as well. The game has seen massive success so far, so as players continue to enjoy the new battle royale, expect Activision to continue to support the title moving forward.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
