Animal Crossing Players Are Recreating Scenes From The Lighthouse
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that members of the gaming community have been expecting for quite awhile now. Not three days after the release of Animal Crossing, users have naturally begun to create memes based on certain aspects of the game. Though, weirdly enough, some of these memes involve the critically acclaimed 2019 horror film, The Lighthouse.
Even though the game has only been out for three days, players have already discovered and reported various findings throughout the game. This includes the multitude of villagers, both old and new to the series. One of them being Gulliver, a seagull that washes up onshore. Players have noticed that this sort of runs parallel to a scene in Robert Egger's The Lighthouse.
In the movie, Robert Pattinson's character has frequent run-ins with an annoying seagull, to which Willem Dafoe's character informs him that "it's bad luck to kill a sea bird." As a result, players have begun to make memes of the player standing over Gulliver's body with the tagline "it's bad luck to kill a sea bird." This officially joins with the other various disturbing Animal Crossing memes to have come out from this game already.
Despite Animal Crossing never really reaching the same heights as Mario or Zelda, it still sports one of the most dedicated and passionate communities of fans in gaming. In fact, during PAX East it was revealed that one player became a billionaire in the original Animal Crossing by buying and selling turnips. With the release of New Horizons, this series, along with its fans continues to be strong and alive within the gaming community.
Though, despite the game's initial success and despite the fact that it has only been out for three days, there have been some complaints regarding the game. The fact that there is only one island per Switch, forcing users to fight over resources, garnered some complaints, particularly from the official Twitter account of Bandai Namco US, weirdly enough. Nevertheless, this game has done a great job of bringing people together during this period of self-isolation.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
