Fortnite Update 12.21 Out Now, Here's What It Does | Game Rant

Barely a week after v12.20 was released, Fortnite experienced some downtime in preparation for the release of the 12.21 update. Early this morning, the battle royale underwent some scheduled maintenance for a couple of hours as the new update was added to the game.

Fortnite is up and running again, but unlike the previous update, nothing has been secretly added or removed. While this incremental update likely only added some bug fixes, it does coincide with the new Operation: Knockout mode and the limited-time King Oro challenges.

As has become their new custom, Epic has not released any patch notes for Fortnite's new update, though it seems there are no new features or items. Even notable Fortnite fan and data miner Lucas7Yoshi agrees that the only major changes to be found are the addition of the Awaken Oro challenges. In fact, given how small it is and the fact it was released so soon after the larger 12.20 update, this update is likely just intended to fix issues caused by the previous update's new features, such as the Choppa. It's also possible this update may be focusing on the FPS issues that have been cropping up in Fortnite since v12.00.

Epic will also likely release another small update for Fortnite in the next few days to fix the Party Hub crashes on Android devices. The company addressed this issue in a tweet released shortly after v12.21's release. In the tweet, Epic assured fans, "We're investigating this and will provide an update once we have more information."

It's no secret Fortnite servers have been having difficulties lately, and part of that is due to bored kids looking for something to do, as schools are closed around the world. An increase in Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone players has already heavily impacted internet traffic in Italy, and it's expected the same will happen in other countries experiencing lockdowns and school closures.

Speaking of Call of Duty, a rumor from a credible source claims that the 2021 entry in the series will feature some Fortnite-like building mechanics. This information comes from YouTuber TheGamingRevolution, who had also provided information on the Black Ops reboot that is supposed to release later this year.

Update 12.21 has been added to Fortnite on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and iOS and Android devices.
