Monster Hunter World Reveals Horrific New Monster Alatreon
Veteran fans of the Monster Hunter series are likely already terrified of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's next returning monsters, the Raging Brachydios and Furious Rajang, who were announced during PAX East 2020 for the popular expansion's third free update. After those two come to the New World on March 23, Capcom revealed that the Blazing Black Dragon Alatreon will be added as part of the game's fourth title update in May.
Alatreon is a well-known endgame Elder Dragon from Monster Hunter 3 that is able to utilize attacks based on four elemental affinities: Dragon, Ice, Thunder, and Fire. The Elder Dragon last appeared 2015's Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and will now be found in the New World's Secluded Valley, where hunters previously did battle with the Safi'jiiva introduced by Iceborne.
Not much else was revealed by Capcom's minute-long trailer for Alatreon posted to the Monster Hunter YouTube channel today, but the HD cinematic showcase of this terrifying beast coming to the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne exhibits a variety of moves it is capable of from the air and ground. Luckily players have a few months of lead time to prepare a stockpile of blight curing items for their impending battles with the Blazing Black Dragon.
Alatreon was teased as a returning "fan-favorite monster" by Iceborne's content roadmap released this January. Based on that roadmap the introduction of Raging Brachydios and Furious Rajang will be the final update that will occur first on console this week, and then on PC in April. After that the platforms will be synced for all future content, including Alatreon.
Thanks to the ongoing experience that Monster Hunter: World's Iceborne expansion provides, the series as a whole is more popular than ever. Capcom announced that Iceborne has sold more than 5 million units in a press release last week, which has contributed to over 62 million units being shipped for the franchise since it began in 2004.
On account of that increased popularity, Capcom has been pushing Monster Hunter into new avenues of entertainment. A Monster Hunter movie starring Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa is set to release in September, given the production is not pushed on account of the coronavirus pandemic. Regardless of the film's fate, fans can certainly expect to have their hands full with Alatreon in May.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
