Which Pokémon Game Suits You Based On Your MBTI®? | Game Rant
There are a lot of Pokémon games to dive into and each seem to be tailored towards a particular audience and playstyle. Whether you prefer capturing, battling, training, snapping pictures, solving puzzles, or getting some fresh air there is a Pokémon game out there that suits your needs.
To better identify which game or even series you should be diving into, here are a list of some of the more popular games and which Myers-Briggs® Personality Types they match up with best. Granted you’d probably enjoy them all, but this will give you an idea of the type of gameplay you can expect.
10 Pokémon Sword & Shield: ENTJ
The latest edition to the Pokémon world is Pokémon Sword & Shield for the Nintendo Switch. In spite of some controversies over the limited Pokedex, it’s proving to be a popular game with some really neat features.
ENTJs will really enjoy the control given to them in this game. You can send your Pokémon off on PokeJobs to gain items and earn experience, Camp Mode enables you to beef up your team before fights, and the Wild Area is a great place to look for your next challenge. Preventing world destruction would also tickle the fancy of any ENTJ.
9 Pokémon Red & Blue: INTJ
The games that started it all, Pokémon Red & Blue will always have a special place in the heart of many Pokémon fans who grew up playing these great games. Though they lack many of the modern features the simplicity of these worlds and the basic combat system is a refreshing change of pace now and then.
INTJs will appreciate this familiar and thoroughly explored world. Whether it’s revisiting the area with a unique playstyle or going on a speedrun INTJs will enjoy trying new things and experimenting with strategies in this black and white world.
8 Pokémon Let’s Go: ISFP
Pokémon Let’s Go is a nostalgic romp through a familiar world while bringing new features and tweaks to the game. Instead of catching Pokémon by making your trained monsters fight wild beasts you instead throw berries to pacify the wild Pokémon and cross your fingers as you lob a Pokeball at them.
ISFPs will probably appreciate this change of pace the most. The game has a greater emphasis on exploration as you chase down Pokémon in the tall grass with a companion Pokémon on your shoulders or you on theirs. Sure there’s still battling with other trainers and gym leaders, but it’s more about the journey this time around.
7 Pokémon GO: ESTP
Pokémon GO achieved what many fans had been dreaming of since they first booted up the Pokémon games all those years ago, bring Pokémon to the real world. Now players can venture out into the open world to catch their favorites, build up their teams, face off against friends, and hunt for legendaries.
ESTPs are likely the ones that enjoy this game the most as it motivates them to go outside and use their own two feet to find, capture, hatch, and strengthen their Pokémon. It also pays to be an extrovert when it comes to interacting with others, doing trades, and attending conferences, something these social butterflies excel at.
6 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: INTP
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series flips the entire concept of the games on its head by making the player turn into a Pokémon and enter a rogue-like game where they must work with other Pokémon to find out what happened.
INTPs will enjoy the turn-based tactical gameplay and slowly unraveling the mystery as they go along. Perhaps the standard games were starting to get a bit monotonous and this dungeon crawler is a fresh take that’ll surely appease any INTP.
5 Pokémon Snap: ISFJ
While most of the Pokémon games revolve around capturing, training, and fighting to some degree Pokémon Snap introduces an entirely new concept. In this game, players are tasked with snapping photos of various Pokémon to accumulate points in order to progress to different areas and get better items.
ISFJs will no doubt love this concept as it allows them to revel in the Pokémon world without causing harm or dominating Pokémon in battle. Instead, they can passively capture the little moments as Pokémon go about their normal lives in the wild.
4 Pokémon Ranger: INFP
Another game to change the basic premise of the Pokémon games is Pokémon Ranger. In this RPG players use a capture styler to temporarily gain control of certain Pokémon in order to solve puzzles to access new areas.
INFP types will enjoy progressing through the puzzles of the story to capture the four dragons and unlock the mysterious door in the Fiore Temple. It’s a solo adventure putting the player alone in the wild with Pokémon to catch and puzzles to solve.
3 Pokémon Stadium: ENFJ
Pokémon Stadium is a game for Pokémon fans who would rather be fighting and training up their team than wandering the world or spending time capturing things. In this game, it’s all about having the strongest, fastest, and most durable Pokémon to dominate opponents.
ENFJs can appreciate this as they use a combination of clever strategies and intuition to crack the code on how to win each match. This isn’t necessarily a game about long-term plans or goals, but focusing on each individual challenge as they come.
2 Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon: ENFP
Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon made the Pokémon world much larger by introducing the concept of interdimensional travel. As players progress in the story they gain the ability to travel to other worlds where they can find and capture strong Pokémon known as Ultra Beasts.
ENFP type personalities will get a kick out of this journey into the unknown and being tasked with hunting down these fearsome predators. It’s a Pokémon game that asks players to try new things and create their own challenges which they’ll appreciate the most.
1 Pokémon X & Y: ISTJ
Pokémon X & Y are much different than other Pokémon games. This story is one that has darkness, tragedy, and revenge in a way not seen in prior stories. Players will encounter betrayal, secrecy, and a villain with a world ending ambition.
It’s the kind of story that will pique the interest of ISTJs who will seek to unravel the chaos being inflicted by Team Flare and bring about peace and order. Not to mention the drama and tragedy will be a big selling point.
