Early 2022 Is Suddenly Slam Packed With Video Games

Without a doubt, 2022 is shaping up to be a major year in gaming. Fans know that Starfield is coming in November and that games like Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and God of War are coming at some point next year. Early 2022 has even had its flagship title for a while, Elden Ring, but as it stands now, the beginning of the year is suddenly packed with games following Gamescom, recent events, and more.

Should every single one of these games, then many wallets may very well be hurting. It also stands likely that some of these get delayed out of their release window, but from Elden Ring to WWE 2K22’s release date, there’s a lot to be excited about currently on the schedule.

Early 2022 Video Game Release Dates

January opens the flood gates with three major games, two of which are likely on most people’s radar. Elden Ring, after being silent for so long, revealed more about itself and even homed in its release date a couple of months ago, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus following right behind it in January. The year is opening up with a brutal Soulslike followed by one of the world’s most popular franchises taking an open-world format. Toss in Rainbow Six: Extraction, and there’s plenty of playtime for the first month.

  • Elden Ring – January 21, 2022
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus – January 28, 2022
  • Rainbow Six: Extraction – January 2022
  • Horizon Forbidden West – February 18, 2022
  • Destiny 2: The Witch Queen – February 22, 2022
  • Sifu – February 22, 2022
  • Saints Row – February 25, 2022
  • Evil Dead: The Game – February 2022
  • WWE 2K22 – March 2022
  • Marvel’s Midnight Suns – March 2022
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Spring 2022
  • Salt and Sacrifice – Q1 2022
  • Diablo Immortal – Q1/Q2 2022
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo – Q1/Q2 2022

February is where video games in early 2022 are already bursting at the seams. It would not be surprising to see one of these games delayed to make room for others; otherwise, in the span of one week, there are 4-5 big games releasing. Horizon Forbidden West was officially delayed at Gamescom, to February 18, which isn’t a bad wait. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen launches just after that, with Sifu releasing on the exact same day. Saints Row comes in right after that, and Evil Dead can be tossed in there anywhere. As it stands, it’s the busiest month of the year so far.

March 2022 begins to slow things down, but each game seems as big as the last. Many games are also slated for the first half of 2022, but not with official release dates yet. WWE 2K22 is breaking tradition by releasing so late in March 2022, which should prove to be a good thing. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the long-rumored Marvel XCOM game, featuring several members of the team as well as the Avengers, such as Wolverine, Blade, Ghostrider, Captain America, Iron Man, and far more.

The long-awaited LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the sequel to a beloved gem Salt and Sacrifice, the mobile game Diablo Immortal, and the enigmatic Ghostwire: Tokyo all remain to fill in the missing time. And with such a selection across such a time period, and considering this list is not and will not be exhaustive, it seems it'll be hard to go wrong with picking up anything in early 2022.
