Blade and Sorcery Mod Adds an Awesome Bullwhip
With the advent of next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, VR gaming can likely still be considered as one of the possible next steps for the future of gaming. Though much of VR’s potential is still untapped, titles such as WarpFrog’s Blade and Sorcery provide a unique take into gaming in virtual reality. Recently, more fans of the title produce mods to keep the game fun and entertaining, with one player creating a weapon modification that adds a classic-looking whip into the title.
Though there is a limited amount of VR-specific games made by big name companies, independent developers seem to favor VR as one of their main channels. Hardcore fans of certain video game series even produce their own virtual reality mods, just to see what it is like to play their favorite titles through the first-person point-of-view. This can be seen in the many VR mods for the Resident Evil series, Red Dead Redemption 2, and in indie titles such as Phasmophobia.
On NexusMods, user MightyMorphine was inspired to add a whip weapon into Blade and Sorcery. According to the mod’s description, it features a custom whip sound effect, a sharp tip point that can cut and dismember foes, and has 10 physics joints in order to make the whip move as realistically as possible. The whip can also be imbued with certain Blade and Sorcery spells, though for now, these are for visuals only. MightyMorphine also mentioned that there was an issue with the whip being too overpowered in battle, however, that glitch has since been fixed with a mod update.
To show interested users how the whip mod looks and feels within Blade and Sorcery, MightyMorphine also uploaded a video on YouTube. In the video, the player uses the weapon to fight off several foes, all of whom they seem to easily take down. The footage also showed off how the mod is able to render bloody cuts and shear off the enemy’s various body parts. For fans who are looking for a different way to enjoy virtual reality gaming, this mod offers a unique take for those who enjoy these kinds of close-ranged battles.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, fans of Virtual Reality games are likely looking forward to the growth of the category. Hopefully many more developers will look at the genre and realize its true potential for really immersive kinds of gameplay.
Blade and Sorcery is available for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index.
