Daniel Radcliffe Reveals His Unconventional Picks For His Favorite Harry Potter Movies

Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, has revealed which Harry Potter movies are his favorite. Radcliffe returned for another WIRED Autocomplete Interview, where guests are tasked with answering the most searched questions about themselves. Radcliffe's first question asked him about his preferred Harry Potter picks.

When asked which Harry Potter film was his favorite, Radcliffe answered "the fifth one, which is not one that most people cite as one of their favorites." Radcliffe explains that the fifth Harry Potter film, The Order of the Phoenix, is his favorite because he got to work with Gary Oldman, who plays Sirius Black, so much in the film. Radcliffe also mentions that by the time of the fifth film, he was a bit older than he was when he originally began the wizarding franchise, allowing him to value the experience much more. To watch, Radcliffe admits that his favorite is the final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

For a decade, Radcliffe portrayed the focal character of the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's novels depicting the wizarding world. The novels were first published in the late 90s, and the film adaptation of the first film premiered four years later in 2001. Harry Potter would grow into a collection of seven novels and eight films. In his WIRED interview, Radcliffe mentions that he was recommended to play the role of Harry Potter by Maggie Smith, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall. While Rowling has come under fire for her comments about the transgender community, fans of Harry Potter and its characters have rallied behind the actors who dismissed the author's comments.

Since the conclusion of Harry Potter in 2011, Radcliffe has continued to make appearances in film and on the stage. He has been part of Victor Frankenstein, Jungle, Beast of Burden, Guns Akimbo, Escape from Pretoria, and most recently, the television series Miracle Workers. The Harry Potter star doesn't hide his preference for the stage, noting that he enjoys the energy the audience is able to bring to the stage during each show. With a stage adaptation of Harry Potter, Radcliffe hates to admit that he hasn't seen it. For him, he worries that as Harry Potter, he may attract too much attention in the audience, making it hard for him to enjoy the performance. Radcliffe admits that he and the cast of Harry Potter remain in contact and that similar to fans, the sudden changes in their lives still take them by surprise.

Typically, the third Harry Potter installment, The Prisoner of Azkaban is a unanimous favorite for Potterheads. Now that Radcliffe has revealed his favorites, it's possible that more fans will begin to weigh Radcliffe's thoughts and make their own allegiances shift.

All eight Harry Potter films are now streaming on HBO Max.
