Deathloop: The Complex Guide

As players are taken through a short mini-tutorial in Deathloop that leads to The Complex. This will mislead many players into thinking this is a simple area due to its prevalence early in the story, but it is filled with puzzles and secrets along with the usual eternalists and visionaries.

As with the other areas, The Complex is filled with different things to do at different times of the day. Beating Deathloop means being at the right place and the right time. The Complex is home to many of those right places and times, so here is a guide for the most significant of those.

Any Time Of Day

The delivery booth in the Complex is next to a crane. Eventually, players will unlock a code and it can be handy to stash a weapon that is designed to take care of Julianna here. It's also out of the way from most mission objectives, making it relatively safe for Colt to go and resupply if he has to.

If, during the morning, Colt has directed the power to The Complex itself, then at any time later, he may enter a secret area of the station, filled with visionary secrets and an elite weapon. The entrance is in the room just up the stairs from where Colt came from to get to the Power Station.

The Residuum Experiment in the Complex is one of the most difficult challenges in the entire game. It yields a single trinket (something the game badly needs to fix), so it's hard to say that it's worth it, but some completionists will enjoy the reward of knowledge.

Take the crank wheel from Wenjie's lab, unlock the Residuum Experiment tank, and take the tank. The doors will lock during this time and will need to be hacked open. Several eternalists will spawn both inside and outside of the room. Vigilantly protect the tank as it breaks easily. Return the tank to the chamber where the crank was resting, plug it into the Trinket Creator, and grab Colt's reward!

Morning

Initially, Dr. Wenjie Evans will be in her laboratory at The Complex during the morning with a whole bunch of her clones. Starting players can't miss her; it's part of the mini-tutorial. After a certain point in the story, Wenjie will cease to be at The Complex in t e morning and will instead appear at Aleksis' party in Updaam or back in her lab during the afternoon.

Charlie's game is generally thought of as the event in Karl's Bay that leads to acquiring the Heritage Gun. But he's got small prizes in other areas, too, one of which is on the edge of the cliff in The Complex, to the right from where Colt enters. It is guarded by three eternalists who are arguing over which one of them should dare to try and acquire the box.

The prizes explode after the morning (they are both timed), so quickly head over to the second one, which is inside of the barracks. Both doors to a small control room are locked, but the antenna to hack can be spotted when peeking through the glass in the door.

The Power Power Station controls the power to all of Blackreef, opening up doors, secrets, and opportunities. The trick is that this station is locked out at every other time except for the morning, so anybody interested in getting through powered-down doors and gates in other areas will have to direct the electrical flow to those areas now.

The generators are down below. There are six in total and Colt can, in theory, activate all six generators are once, though only two are required to turn the power on to a single area. Players who don't know how batteries work will want to take a course on the subject first. This is the most extensive battery puzzle in Deathloop, requiring.

Noon

Interrupting Egor's experiment can be done anytime before the evening, but to break the loop, it must be done at noon. There are field nullifiers inside the half-blue unit right next to the entrance/exit. These are guarded by alarms that will activate two turrets in the room and alert the entire area to Colt's presence.

Use the Aether of Shift slabs to get by with no issue. Place the field nullifier next to the shimmering light next to this structure to reveal a transmitter. After punching in the code gained from "Lost in Transmission," Egor will be at Aleksis' party at Updaam in the evening.

Afternoon

Although most players will either take out Wenjie in the morning or have her sent to Aleksis' party in Updaam, there is a moment during the afternoon where Wenjie is, once again, at her laboratory. The fight is identical to the first, so don't overthink it.

Outside of scavenging for any missed clues, The Complex isn't of much further use. The ideal time to block Egor's transmission is at noon, but if player's would like, they can block it again here during the afternoon. Once again, the tactic remains the same.

Evening

It's probably best to take care of Egor at the party along with his other visionary pals, but until Colt learns the code to counter his transmission, he is committed to his experiment. Egor will be behind the barracks in the evening and any sound of fighting or violence will trigger his Aether slab. He'll still be in this general area, but he runs around invisible all over. Make use of the nullifiers and he shouldn't be too hard to take out.

Deathloop was released on September 14, 2021, and is available on PC and PlayStation 5.
