Assassin's Creed Odyssey leaks have been officially confirmed

Update: Ubisoft has confirmed Assassin's Creed Odyssey, tweeting a short video to the Assassin's Creed Twitter account. The tweet reads, "See you at E3," and an attached video shows a soldier in Greek armor kicking another man off a cliff. The video concludes with the Assassin's Creed Odyssey branding.

The rumours were true: we've had our clearest indication yet that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set in Ancient Greece. The latest evidence is a photo of what is allegedly some promotional merchandise, which indicates it will be called Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

The photo was given to French site JeuxVideo-Live, who says it comes from a reliable insider. It depicts a miniature Corinthian helmet on a keychain, in a blister package with some Assassin’s Creed Odyssey branding. It does look pretty official.

The helmet style, favored by Greek hoplites and mythologized later by the Romans, is an unmistakable symbol of the ancient Greeks, with legendary figures such as Achilles often depicted wearing one. It’s linked to the keyring itself by a string of squares (tiles, perhaps) that bear a distinctively Greek motif.

Here's our list of upcoming PC games to keep your eye on.

This is a pretty plausible direction for Assassin’s Creed after taking us to Egypt’s Greco-Roman era in Assassin’s Creed Origins, and lines up with rumours we heard from around this time last year.

Those rumours suggested that Assassin's Creed Origins starts a trilogy, with new protagonist Bayek heading to ancient Greece in its middle chapter.
