Nvidia’s 430.39 GPU driver is causing high CPU loads, here’s how to fix it

Nvidia’s latest driver release, version 430.39, is having some CPU loading issues, with users reporting that the Nvidia Container part of the driver is using up between 10 and 20% CPU capacity. There are currently some workarounds you can engage with if you’re suffering from high CPU load, but Nvidia has also confirmed that it has been able to replicate the issue itself and is currently testing a fix for it.

That could mean we’ll have a GeForce driver hotfix coming soon if the Nvidia software team manage to isolate the nvdisplay.container.exe issue, otherwise you’ll have to delve into your files and start deleting folders…

And what is the file itself doing? The nvdisplay.container executable is part of Nvidia’s telemetry gathering schtick, and even if you opt to install just the display driver only the software will still create the offending files and folders and potentially jam up your CPU. There’s a good chance you won’t have noticed any issues if you don’t routinely nose about in Task Manager, but if you’ve been noticing your CPU fans whirring up more regularly, Nvidia’s drivers might well be the culprit.
