Infinity Ward is planning “cross-play support” for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could allow fans of the series to play together across PC and console. Infinity Ward says that it’s looking into cross-play support for the next title in the series, which is set to release later this year.

In a statement, the studio said that “with the launch of Modern Warfare, the team is taking steps to unite the community. First, the team plans for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.”

That statement doesn’t necessarily mean that cross-play between PC and console will be available for launch, although that does seem to be the intention. However noble Infinity Ward’s intentions may be, however, the main obstacle in its attempt to bring cross-play to Call of Duty is likely to be console manufacturers. While a few exceptions have been made over the past year or so, cross-play with Sony has been tricky to achieve, and there’s no guarantee that the company will have changed its tune by the time Modern Warfare releases later this year.
