The Lion King Remake Beats Original at the Box Office With $1B
Disney's The Lion King roared past a huge box office milestone this week, as it officially crossed over the billion-dollar mark after less than three weeks in theatres.
The staggering box office performance of Jon Favreau's live-action remake has now also stampeded past the original 2D animated film to become the ultimate king of the charts, according to Collider. Plus it is the fourth Disney film to join the billion-dollar club this year.
Without adjusting for inflation, the 1994 classic finished its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of $968.5 million, including $422.8 million at the US box office, but the 2019 version managed to charge past the $1 billion threshold in just 19 days.
