Borderlands 3 Nerfed the Best Farming Spot in the Game

This week, Borderlands 3 developer Gearbox Software released its first hot fix that was focused on improving the stability of the game and some nagging issues. Granted, it didn’t address the frame rate dips or the lag, but it laid the groundwork for the performance optimizations that are to come.

Then, on Friday, Borderlands 3 received its first balance update that delivered buffs and nerfs to skills, characters, weapons, and more. For all intents and purposes, this was Gearbox Software’s first response to what it had been seeing from the community.

Among other things like buffing Zane and nerfing one of the best legendary weapons for FL4K, the Borderlands 3 update also nerfed one of the best farming spots in the game. Many players relied heavily on the Graveward vault boss to help them boost their level, Guardian Rank, and loot, but this update has made that process a little more tedious.

One of the key things that Gearbox did was rebalance Graveward’s beam attacks. It seemed strange that when farming the Vault boss it never really damaged players with its fire, corrosive, or radiation attack. At times, those attacks would deal damage, but on Mayhem 3 it didn’t seem proportionate to the type of damage other bosses deliver. It turns out that was a bug.

Additionally, Gearbox retuned Graveward so that the boss is no longer susceptible to elemental damage at an inordinate amount. Because of the enemy’s size, Graveward would take more elemental damage than the average target, and so it was easier to take it down.

To compensate for that, though, Gearbox did lower Graveward’s total health so Borderlands 3 players might not have as hard of a time taking it down as they might think. Still, if they can’t take Graveward out in that initial damage phase, his follow-up attacks are going to hurt a lot more.

Ultimately, with the right build and the right legendary weapon, Borderlands 3 players should still be able to take down Graveward on Mayhem 3 more quickly. However, those that are just starting out and don’t yet have a proper Borderlands 3 build for high damage may find that Graveward isn’t as great of a farm as it once was.

The first thing we recommend is getting ahold of a Lyuda Sniper Rifle, as it is one of the best legendary weapons in Borderlands 3 post-update. From there, fill in the rest of the pieces to maximize damage/critical damage and Graveward should be easy to manage once again. Just look out for his attacks now.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
