Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Pinnacle Weapons Revealed for Crucible, Gambit, Vanguard
Ahead of the official Destiny 2: Shadowkeep launch, developer Bungie has announced that pinnacle weapons will be a thing of the past. The developer has renamed them 'ritual weapons' and changed how these weapons function slightly. This time around, these weapons will receive curated rolls instead of special Destiny 2 perks.
The dev team did issue an explanation as to why it decided to make these changes. The first was that the "band in which 'pinnacle' perk can exist is actually quite small" and many of them exceeded the team's expectations in terms of their role in Destiny 2. Secondly, Crucible pinnacle weapons were creating problems with players, as many would pursue these weapons for the "best loadouts," which isn't what these were designed for. They were to be interesting novelties, not the absolute height of power.
These ritual weapons are earned via the Crucible, Vanguard, and Gambit. The Crucible's ritual weapon is Randy's Throwing Knife, Vanguard's is Edgewise, and Gambit's is the Exit Strategy. The specific quests for earning these weapons haven't been revealed yet, but Bungie did give players a glimpse at these new Destiny 2 weapons.
While this certainly makes sense, many will indubitably miss the very concept of pinnacle weapons in Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion, but it does have the added benefit of making these weapons all the more valuable. These new ritual weapons can be earned via Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard quests, but they won't be as involved as pinnacle weapons. In other words, they will be slightly easier to earn.
How these change up Destiny 2 moving forward remains to be seen, but they're definitely helping the hype now. The first Destiny 2: Shadowkeep mission is available for fans to watch now, and in a few days' time, it'll be available to play as well. SPOILER WARNING: While the aforementioned doesn't show much, it does confirm a fact that some fans may want to keep fresh to experience for themselves.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be released on October 1 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Google Stadia version to follow.
