Destiny 2 Year 2 Exotic Catalysts Confirmed | Game Rant
A new round of Destiny 2 Shadowkeep hands-on previews have confirmed a leak going all the way back to May.
The leak in question uncovered information about Bungie's plans to add Catalysts for Destiny 2's Year 2 Exotics. Since then, no official word has come from Bungie about its Year 2 Exotics plans. Today, however, the confirmation came through.
The May leak came via a datamine from a Destiny 2 scraping website. The database found new details about 9 different Exotic Catalysts for Year 2 weapons, as well as 11 other weapons Catalysts listed without stats associated with them yet. Today that leak is partially confirmed as two preview streams for Destiny 2 Shadowkeep each had one Catalyst drop apiece. The drops confirm that the Catalysts will be available as part of Shadowkeep.
The first Catalyst to drop was the Cerberus +1 Catalyst during IGN's "25 Minutes of Destiny 2" video. It dropped during a Nightfall run, implying it'll either be limited to Nightfall or is a world drop. A second Catalyst dropped during a similar Nightfall playthrough, according to YouTuber KackisHD. This second drop was the Ace of Spades Catalyst and dropped from the Nightfall's final chest.
Given that the preview experiences were limited to only a small section of Shadowkeep, it's understandable that only two Catalysts for the Year 2 Exotics were discovered. If anything, discovering two Catalysts in a relatively limited preview event is surprising. But it also unfortunately means that further confirmation of the Year 2 Exotic Catalysts will likely have to wait until Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion officially launches. Two Catalyst confirmations are more than were confirmed before, at the very least.
For those unfamiliar with the May leak who were hoping to hear if their favorite Exotic was listed, here are the others that were datamined, in addition to the Cerberus and Ace of Spades. Malfeasance, Trinity Ghoul, Lord of Wolves, Wavesplitter, One Thousand Voices, The Queenbreaker, Two-Tailed Fox, and Black Talon all had stats shown at the time of the leak. Wish-Ender, The Last Word, Thorn, Arbalest, The Chaperone, Izanagi's Burden, Le Monarque, Jotunn, Anarchy, and Thunderlord didn't have stats at the time. Given that Cerberus was initially part of the first list and Ace of Spades part of the second, all listed Exotics seem likely to receive Catalysts in Shadowkeep.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Shadowkeep releases October 1.
