GoldenEye 007 Fan Remake Reveals Silo Level, Looks Incredible
The iconic GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 is getting yet another fan remake. Recent footage of the gameplay was released and it may strike a nostalgic chord with 90s gamers. A speedrun of the "Silo" level is enough to get fans excited for the beautiful remake.
Developers have clarified that this remake is not the same as GoldenEye: Source that was released in 2010. Like GoldenEye: Source, this new game entitled "GoldenEye 25" will be free to play as well. GoldenEye 25 has been developed by two of the original team of who created GoldenEye: Source.
GoldenEye 007 was originally released in on August 25th, 1997 and quickly became one of the most revered first-person shooters. GoldenEye 25 is aptly named, as it will be releasing on the game's 25th anniversary on August 25th, 2022. The two-man team is promising several updates and changes that will improve on the game and quality.
The developers have reported that all assets will be "made from scratch," and are not accepting any financial contributions. This helps ensure that the developers will not be handed a cease and desist notice, as they have already avoided with their first remake, GoldenEye: Source. The texture, lighting, character models, and even music will be getting a remake from the ground-up. There is hope that Natalia will get a demolition-style upgrade, but if the developers want to stay true to the original 64 edition, they may just leave her to her own devices.
Thirteen years after the original N64 game, Nintendo released a Wii version of the game, this time starring Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosnan. The Wii version added more stealth options like being able to choke enemies instead of using up precious ammo making it easier to sneak around the Facility. Other such additions were added after many of the original ideas for GoldenEye 007 that had been deleted. Details have yet to be announced on whether or not any of the updates from the Wii version will make their way into the fan remake or if the game will be playable on anything other than a PC.
With consoles being as stringent as they are on copyrights, it's less than likely the remake will make it to any other platform other than PC. For a two-man operation, GoldenEye 25 is an impressive overhaul of the legendary game.
GoldenEye 25 is set to release as a free-to-play game on August 25th, 2022 and played on PC.
