Rainbow Six Siege: 10 Tips For Playing On Coastline | Game Rant

Coastline was added into Rainbow Six Siege quite some time ago, and has remained competitive (and this writer's favorite map) ever since. Out of all of the map in the Ranked playlist, Coastline has some of the most personality and a very unique way in which the map plays out. It's a super-condensed map, with few options when it comes to traversing through it and plenty of options for cutting those rotations lanes off from outside the map. If you aren't on your toes, you're going to die here. A lot. To help prevent this travesty, here are ten tips for those times you find yourself in Coastline:

10 2F BILLIARDS ROOM/HOOKAH LOUNGE

This is one of the more preferred sites on Coastline. The easiest means of Attack here are from the Aquarium and/or the Hookah Deck. And so, that's generally where the Defense is going to throw the brunt of their effort. Just about every Defense opens a rotation hole through the SW corner of the Hookah Lounge into Billiards; just keep in mind that a hole in that wall is going to be visible from both the exterior double-door in the Aquarium and/or the double window in Billiards.

9 2F PENTHOUSE/THEATER

Another of the more preferred sites on Coastline, the Penthouse/Theater is a bit tougher for Attackers to get meaningful real-estate near the bomb site because there aren't as many exterior balconies around. There's almost always going to be one or two Attackers that focus their Attack from the EXT DJ Booth and push into the VIP Lounge and/or the Hall of Fame, while the others push from the 2F Hallway. Defending this site well usually requires a healthy mix of Roamers and Anchors, and maintaining control of that 2F Hallway is going to be of vital importance.

8 1F KITCHEN/SERVICE ENTRANCE

This site is a bit trickier to control. For starters, Attackers are going to have some pretty easy access to the objective through both the Kitchen window and the door leading into the Service Entrance. Anchors are going to need to be comfortable keeping these angles secure, while Roamers focus their effort on both keeping the hallway outside objective clear and peeking out windows and doors to harass Attackers on that Kitchen window.

This is also an objective with a bit of easy vertical play possibility, and if Attackers are going to use it, Defenders are going to need to devote some of their manpower to defending it.

7 1F BLUE BAR/SUNRISE BAR

This site usually requires a bit of creativity from the Defense, but that doesn't mean it's indefensible. Attackers are going to get easy access to a plethora of different objective windows/doors, but most (if not all) of these are relatively easily peeked by Defenders; Attackers are going to have to watch their backs while using them, and likely employ a Nomad and/or Gridlock if they want to spend much time on them. Many Defending teams like to set up one or two Defenders in the 2F Hookah Lounge and make use of the ceiling hatch that drops into the Sunrise Bar. With a well-placed rotate hole between the sites, this hatch can give an easy rotate to any Defender from the Hookah into either of the rooms.

6 CLOSE QUARTERS GUNFIGHT

Much of Coastline comes down to a straight-up gunfight. There aren't a lot of options when it comes to maneuvering around the map, which means it's going to be pretty rare that anybody is surprised at all by your presence. Because of this, it can be a good idea for some teams to value bringing a weapon they perform well with as opposed to bringing a gadget that might not bring them as much value. Coastline is going to require you to win quite a few evenly matched gunfights, and that's going to be easier with a better weapon.

5 NOMAD/GRIDLOCK, HIGH VALUE

As mentioned plenty of times before, there aren't a lot of different routes to take you through the map in Coastline, so the value of both Nomad and Gridlock skyrockets.

Either of these operators can effectively close down a route to an objective site on their own, at the very least requiring a Defender to make quite a racket in order to get through, and possibly scoring an easy kill. Force Defending teams apart with your gadgets, and watch them make mistake after mistake.

4 ROOFTOP PLAY

Coastline is pretty unique in that it has an open rooftop that gives Attackers easy views from the roof to two sides of the 2F Hallway. This makes for an easy way to cut off rotates from the Defenders without much risk, just make sure you aren't wasting too much time on the roof without supporting your teammates. Most of the time, it's worth taking a peek at the beginning of the round to see if you can catch a Defender making a late sprint across the map, but the longer the round goes, the more you're wasting your own time.

3 EVERY OBJECTIVE HAS EASY ACCESS FROM OUTSIDE

There is no objective in Coastline without access from the outside of the building. This means any Attacker can get from outside into the objective in seconds, and keep pressure on the objective from nearby without much fear of being flanked by a Roamer. Anchors are going to need to be very efficient here because if one or two Anchors drops close to each other, the Attackers are going to know that the site is pretty clear.

Roamers are going to really need to be in the loop on what's going on at objective, too, because they aren't going to have a lot of room or time to operate.

2 VENT ABOVE BAR IN AQUARIUM

One place for Attackers to score some easy kills on Defenders that don't have a lot of map knowledge is through the roof vent above the 2F Aquarium. Cook a frag grenade and drop if through the vent, and you'll be surprised how often you score a free kill, especially in ranks below Platinum. As a Defender, if you want to play behind that bar, it's a good idea to bring a Jager to keep you covered.

1 GREAT MAP TO LEARN SIEGE ON

Coastline is a great map to learn Siege on. It's a very close-quarters map that isn't overly complicated, so the map is very easy to learn, especially compared to some other maps like Villa and Outback. And, while gun-skill is going to be valued high here, there are still plenty of opportunities for gadgets and creative tactics to win the day. Vertical play has an importance here, as does tight communication with your team.
