10 Biggest PS4 Games By File Size, Ranked | Game Rant

Is it just us, or are video games getting bigger? Once upon a time, you could simply pop a cartridge or a disc into your system, and it would play. But nowadays, you have to sit and wait while the game downloads, which could take hours depending on the size of the game and the speed of your internet.

And while some games are a respectable and understandable size, some are true behemoths. These are the ones that take hours, sometimes even overnight, to completely download. These are the true big boys. These are the ten biggest PS4 games by file size, ranked.

10 Spider-Man ~ 45 GB

Spider-Man is one of the best PS4 exclusives, but it's also one of the biggest. It eats up roughly 45 GB of hard drive space, which is certainly no laughing matter. It's not really hard to gauge why it takes up so much space — the map is quite massive and dense, as it is a picture perfect digital recreation of New York City. All that said, no one seems to mind the massive install size. The game's world was critically acclaimed and is widely regarded as the greatest city recreation in video game history. So really, who cares about a measly 45 GB!?

9 The Witcher III: Wild Hunt ~ 50 GB

Speaking of great video games, let's talk about The Witcher III! This game is fresh in everyone's minds thanks to the recently released Netflix series, but those looking to try the game out for themselves should know that it comes with a relatively huge 50 GB install size.

However, for that price you receive one of the greatest and most interactive open worlds in gaming history, so we believe the precious hard drive space is more than worth it.

8 Doom ~ 50-70 GB

If you want to play one of the greatest first-person shooters of the modern era, you'll have to cough up anywhere from 50 to 70 GB of space. Doom is a surprising monster of a game, and its base install runs about 50 GB. Yes, Doom is roughly the same size as The Witcher III. However, fans have reported that the game can take up to 70 GB of space once all the patches have been installed. That's a lot of space for a simple first-person shooter. This may be one of those "install it, play it, and delete it" sort of games.

7 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End ~ 55 GB

It's amazing to think that Uncharted 4 takes up more space than a game as big as The Witcher III. But that's what you get with Naughty Dog! Uncharted 4 isn't a particularly huge game, but its story is relatively long for a single player game, the environments are enormous and highly detailed, and as you all know, the graphics are positively stunning. Such power requires a lot of space, and with a base install of 50 GB and a day one 5 GB patch, Uncharted 4 will take up at least 55 GB of your hard drive space.

6 Grand Theft Auto V ~ 68 GB

You'd think that Grand Theft Auto V would take up more space. But still, 68 GB is nothing to ignore. While GTA V is six years old, it's still a whopper of a game thanks to its incredibly large and detailed open world. Not only that, there have been numerous patches released over the years, not to mention the inclusion of Grand Theft Auto Online, which is still managing to make waves and top the charts. In the end, you'll be looking at just under 70 GB to install the game and everything it has to offer.

5 Call Of Duty: Black Ops III ~ 80-100 GB

The Call of Duty games have been getting bigger and bigger over the years, and that includes the enormous Black Ops III. Even on release, Black Ops III was quite big. It required about 55 GB of hard drive space, and that was just for the base game! The file size has obviously increased since then, what with patches, updates, and DLC. Nowadays, Black Ops III will run you about 80 GB of space, with some users even reporting file sizes upwards of 100 GB. It's hard to gauge the exact amount, but one thing is for sure — it's a beast.

4 Red Dead Redemption II ~ 100 GB

Red Dead Redemption II may have been a little divisive, but most of us can agree that its open world is positively magical. It is expansive and rich with detail, the NPC AI is second to none (at least in terms of everyday activities and interactivity), and the graphics are about as life-like as you'll get on a base PS4 console.

But such an experience comes equipped with a major cost, and that cost is roughly 100 GB of your hard drive's space. And that's just for the base game! Ah, it's all well worth it.

3 The Elder Scrolls Online ~ 80-120 GB

The Elder Scrolls Online is another game that is difficult to gauge. The base game is relatively meager, but no one actually plays the base game. The magic of this game is all the DLC, and each update seems to be larger than the last. When it comes to the file size of The Elder Scrolls Online, people will tell you wildly different things. Some people report a file size around the 80 GB area, while others claim that all the updates, patches, and DLC combine to push it upwards of 120 GB.

2 Destiny 2 ~ 165 GB

Destiny 2 is a controversial game. It's also a very big game. The base Destiny 2 doesn't take up much space, but when you take into account all the post-release content and expansions, it currently sits around 80 GB. But then came Shadowkeep. Shadowkeep is the game's newest expansion, and it alone runs upwards of 70 GB. When all is said and done, the full Destiny 2 experience will cost you about 165 GB in hard drive space. Looks like you'll need to delete a few games. Or get a separate hard drive.

1 Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare ~ 175 GB

Modern Warfare is the latest multiplayer extravaganza, but if you want to be included in the frenzy, you'll have to cough up some major hard drive retail. Modern Warfare is easily the biggest Call of Duty game yet, as the base install alone measures in at an unbelievable 107 GB. That alone was outrageous enough, but then people learned there was a massive 50 GB day one update. It's pretty weird when mere update is the size of The Witcher III! And with the addition of the 15 GB Spec Ops stuff, you're looking at roughly 175 GB of hard drive space. It's a doozy.
