Magic: The Gathering Reveals Theros: Beyond Death Spoilers for December 30

Over the course of the last several days, Wizards of the Coast has revealed a handful of cards from Magic: The Gathering's forthcoming set, Theros: Beyond Death. These cards include a brand new Gruul God, a Legendary Satyr lord, and more, but these reveals were merely an entree to the Theros: Beyond Death preview season, which is now in full swing. Indeed, today, December 30, was the first day to see multiple cards from the new set officially revealed, and all of them can be found collected below.

Of the 20 Theros: Beyond Death spoilers shared today, 14 are brand new cards and 6 are reprints. Five of the reprints are the allied colored Scry Lands, which will compliment the enemy colored Scry Lands that were reprinted in Core Set 2020 and are sure to see play in Standard, and the sixth is Field of Ruin. While there are currently no lands causing a great deal of trouble in Standard, thanks to the banning of Field of the Dead, Field of Ruin is an excellent safety valve moving forward.

With respect to the new cards being introduced in Theors: Beyond Death, several seem quite powerful. Erebos, Bleak-Hearted, which allows players to draw cards when another one of their creatures dies, seems especially strong alongside the already-proven engine of Cauldron Familiar and Witch's Oven, for instance, and Woe Strider may find a home in such a sacrifice-based Standard deck as well.

Another card of interest is certainly Underworld Breach, though it is difficult to determine if it has a place in Standard at this time. This Enchantment gives every card in a player's graveyard Escape, a new Theors: Beyond Death mechanic, and while Underworld Breach may ultimately prove to be one of the many wacky but unplayable red Enchantments, it could be seriously powerful with the right support.

Nylea, Sharp-Eyed | Legendary Enchantment Creature - God

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to green is less than five, Nylea, Sharp-Eyed is not a creature.

Creature spells you cast cost 1 less to cast.

2G: Reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put it into your hand. Otherwise you may put it into your graveyard.

Wrath of Storm | Sorcery | Wrath of Storm deals 4 damage to each creature and each Planeswalker.

There is, of course, a great deal more to digest in today's Theros spoilers, and there will be at least seven more revealed tomorrow. This level of sharing will continue through the end of next week, at which point fans will have a real sense of what this new Magic: The Gathering set will bring to the game when it releases at the end of January.
