The Witcher Mod Adds 'Toss A Coin To Your Witcher' To The Game
Netflix released its TV adaptation of The Witcher just a couple weeks ago, and one of the things fans are talking about--and listening to--the most is a song performed by Jaskier (Joey Batey). So, naturally, a mod has been crafted for the original The Witcher game to insert "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" into a cutscene in-game.
"Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" makes its appearance in episode 2 of the Netflix series, and it's one of a few different bard songs sung by Jaskier; players might know him better as Dandelion, but Jaskier is his original Polish name. The mod insert changes a couple of cutscenes in New Narakort and Murky Waters.
The mod itself is pretty simple, its only function being adding Jaskier's song into The Witcher game and; therefore the mod is aptly listed as "Toss a coin to your Witcher Cutscene Mod" on the Nexus Mod site. The mod's included cutscenes were remodeled from the "Rise of the White Wolf Enhanced Edition modification" mod, also on the Nexus. According to hub997, the mod's developer, both cutscenes were a little stiff, so players who install the mod should see a couple of differences: the crowd of assembled NPCs had a bit more life added to them, and Dandelion's movements on his lute have actually been synchronized with the song.
There are other changes the modder would like to make in the future, and they've already posted on the mod's page that an improved version of the cutscene is on its way, with the cutscene getting a furnished interior, new characters, animations, and improved camera movement. Another cutscene addition is also in the works, this one incorporating a second song from the Netflix series, though it's currently unclear which song that will be.
Unfortunately for The Witcher 3's sudden influx of players--which began once Netflix released its series and has grown to over 70,000 players on Steam--the mod is only for the first Witcher game; it doesn't seem to have gotten a bump in players like its descendant, but perhaps some players out there will still see fit to install the mod. Right now, there aren't any announced plans for a Witcher 2 or 3 version of the mod.
The Witcher is available to play on OS X and PC, while the new series can be streamed on Netflix.
