Dead Cells Shows Gameplay from Bad Seed DLC | Game Rant
Developer Motion Twin's Dead Cells is all set to get its first piece of paid DLC in a couple of weeks, called The Bad Seed, and now a teaser is showing off some of the new gameplay that will come with the add-on. The Dead Cells expansion promises to bring new biomes, enemies, weapons, and more to the action-platform roguelike game.
The Bad Seed is coming after over a year of free updates to the core game (since Dead Cells' release in August 2018), and it'll cost players $4.99 to download--with a 10% discount for those who already own the base game. According to Motion Twin, bringing paid DLC to the game is a good way to facilitate further expansion for the developer and its future games.
In The Bad Seed's gameplay trailer, fans can get a look at two of the DLC's biggest additions: the two new biomes coming to the game, Arboretum and The Swamp, which will serve as alternative routes to The Courtyard/Toxic Sewers, and The Ramparts/Ossuary/Ancient Sewers. Arboretum is a vibrant green biome inhabited by a clan of mushrooms, while The Swamp is a twisted, overgrown village filled with bloodsuckers, frogmen, and mutants. They'll both be encountered early in the game, giving players some more variety, along with a new boss called Mama Tick who lives in the Heart of the Swamp. According to Motion Twin, the Mama Tick boss is "on par with The Concierge" in terms of difficulty and made to "spice up your early game runs once you’ve played through the core game," which is definitely saying something for a game lauded as one of the best games of 2018.
In addition to the other enemies and weapons included with the DLC, The Bad Seed also includes an "unseen mechanic" for players to discover, plus the game's first double-slot weapon and a "very dedicated and loyal" mushroom companion. The Bad Seed currently has its own Steam page with more information, but Motion Twin will also be hosting a Reddit AMA on February 11 (the date of the DLC's release) at 8 am EST for fans to satisfy their curiosity on the Dead Cells update.
It seems Developer Motion Twin is planning to put the profits from The Bad Seed right back toward fueling the studio's continuous expansion of the game, saying that the paid DLC "allows us to expand the game even more and ensure that Motion Twin have the time they need to make their next game one they’ll be proud of and you’ll be stoked to play." Should the DLC do well on its release, Dead Cells fans could very well have more in-game content (albeit no sequel) for a long time to come.
Dead Cells is available to play now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One; The Bad Seed releases on February 11 for the same platforms.
