Destiny 2 Offering T-Shirt, Emblem for Australia Fire Relief Donations
Destiny 2 developer Bungie is well known for its charitable efforts, including the Bungie Foundation, which is organized to "reduce distress and suffering in children through entertainment." The Bungie Foundation often does as much as it's able to support ongoing humanitarian disasters, too. The latest example is Bungie asking for support for Australia during the country's ongoing bush fire disaster.
Bungie and the Bungie Foundation have created an opportunity for Destiny 2 players and sympathetic gamers to contribute to Australia's firefighting and animal rescue efforts. A limited-edition t-shirt is going to be sold on the Bungie Store starting Thursday, January 16. The t-shirt's design is still being finalized, but it should be shared the week of January 12 for potential buyers to see before they pre-order.
The limited-edition t-shirt will also be bundled with a special reward for Destiny 2 players. Those who purchase the shirt will also receive an exclusive "Star Light, Star Bright" emblem for use in-game. The emblem features a unique star-shaped icon, with the full banner showing a stylized view of the stars. There will be no other way for Destiny 2 players to acquire the Star Light, Star Bright emblem other than by buying the t-shirt, much like with Destiny 2's other emblems sold for charity.
While the price of the t-shirt is unannounced, the Bungie Foundation has already decided which charities the profits will go to. Half of all profits from the t-shirt sales will go to WIRES, Australia's largest wildlife rescue organization. The second half of profits will go to New South Wales' Rural Fire Service, a region that has been heavily affected by the ongoing Australian bush fires. The NWS Rural Fire Service is the largest volunteer fire service in the world, and they can use all of the help they can get.
There are no requirements or expectations necessary to purchase the t-shirt once it goes on sale. This isn't the sort of exclusive that requires completing a series of Destiny 2 achievements. All that's noteworthy about the purchase is that when orders go live, they'll be pre-orders. It's clear the Bungie Foundation is doing what it can to get money to Australia as soon as possible, so there's no time to wait. The t-shirts themselves may take a bit before they're made and shipped. The emblem, however, will go out alongside purchases.
Destiny 2 is available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
