Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Leak Reveals Two Playable Dragon Ball Super Characters

It's been just under two weeks since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot released, but the newest action RPG has been well received by fans. Building on the foundation of previous titles and the anime, the latest entry has players explore the world while growing Goku's strength through training. But the core of the series, battles with iconic characters across different sagas, is still intact as the main characters fight powerful opponents across all the storylines of Dragon Ball Z and perhaps more soon.

After finishing the main plot, players can still roam around and do post-game content but there's currently no other story arcs past the Majin Buu Saga. Additional DLC is on the way, though, that will allow time travel and open the possibility of more sagas past Dragon Ball Z. On that note, datamining has revealed that Beerus, the God of Destruction, and Whis, his angel attendant, can already be found in the game files.

SLOplays demonstrated on YouTube that Beerus and Whis aren't just copy and paste designs. Instead, they each have their own working model that can be used in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Debug Mode. The video showed that both characters have unique movement on land or sky, special fighting animations, and super attacks like Beerus' iconic Sphere of Destruction.

With this information in mind, it seems that Beerus and Whis are actually part of the code rather than a mod insert. When Goku was transformed into a goose, the bird still fought with the same techniques and super attacks that the Saiyan normally used. However, the two Dragon Ball Super characters appear to have been faithfully recreated, true to their anime forms, in-game. It is still unknown to what extent Beerus and Whis will be playable, but fans of the series can safely assume that the duo will appear in the story, possibly as bosses, and stick around with the team afterwards.

Since Beerus and Whis seem inevitable additions at this point, it opens the door for alternative stories to be incorporated in-game. At the moment, there are possibly plans to integrate the classic Dragon Ball Z movies featuring Broly as future DLC, but more seem to be on the way. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has already taken steps to address or improve parts of lore, so bringing over twenty years of content from the past, present, and future to finally tie Dragon Ball Z, Super, and GT together could actually be done.

For now, there's still no word on when Bandai Namco will release the update bringing Beerus and Whis to Earth. In the meantime, fans of the series can continue playing through the story or post-game, where the Time Machine should be repaired in the near future.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
