E3 2020 Will Feature 'Surprise Guests' and a 'Super Fun' Experience
The Entertainment Software Association has teased "surprise guests" and a "super fun" experience for E3 2020. The ESA has been trying to get gamers excited about the event after Sony announced that it wouldn't be attending E3 2020.
In a teaser for E3 2020, the ESA has confirmed what fans can expect from the games industry event. "We are well down the path on the development and production of a large, super fun floor experience that celebrates gaming culture in exciting new ways," said the ESA and that there will be several "gatherings" that allow people to play games. The event will also offer "surprise guests, amazing stage experiences, access to insiders and experiential zones that delight the senses."
The ESA didn't reveal which special guests will be at E3 2020, but gamers could have a guess. Epic Games has held a Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am event for two years which has brought popular streamers like Ninja and celebrities like Marshmello to E3 to play Fortnite together. If Epic decides to bring that back again, gamers could potentially find themselves playing games against some of the industry's biggest talents.
E3 has also brought people such as Steven Spielberg, Jason Derulo, and Angela Bassett to the event because their directing, singing, or acting was part of a game. There are also several popular celebrity gamers such as Mila Kunis, Vin Diesel, and Jack Black, who has started his own gaming YouTube channel. If they enjoy gaming, the ESA could get them to show up at E3 2020 as a surprise guest.
However, it's unlikely that the ESA will be able to give fans a bigger surprise than Keanu Reeves at the Microsoft E3 2019 event. Fans were excited about him being in Cyberpunk 2077 but the "you're breathtaking" memes are what made that such a brilliant moment. It's difficult to see how any surprise guest could do something better than that.
It's also unclear if any of these celebrities could help the ESA show people why E3 is important. After Sony decided not to go to E3 again, many began asking if events like this are needed. Gamers can also see celebrities talking about games on sites such as Twitch and don't need to go to E3 for that. The ESA is taking ideas for how to make E3 2020 fun though which suggests that it knows that it needs more than special guests to get people excited about it.
