Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Map Leaks Are Fake | Game Rant

Bad news for any Fortnite players who got excited this past weekend over what appeared to be leaked screenshots teasing Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. It’s been confirmed that those are fake, and the person behind their creation has opened up on why they shared them in the first place.

Like most huge online-centric games these days, Fortnite has seen its fair share of things leak ahead of time, so players were cautiously optimistic when new screenshots emerged suggesting that the next season, which starts in February, would see changes to the map emanating from Steamy Stacks. However, many suspected that the images could be fake, and it turns out they were right.

Reddit user KinaKingy claims to be the one who created the fakes. “Hi, sorry if any of you guys thought this was real and will get disappointed by this. The leak was fake as a lot of people expected,” they said in a video where they spoke through a text-to-speech program, mentioning that this was the easiest option since English is not their first language. This leak, they said, is the latest in a number of fake Fortnite screenshots that they made to resemble official-looking material.

“The thing is, I made this for fun and just to see how people were going to react to another supposed leak of information, including a map and trailer screenshots.” To doubly assure that the images were made up, KinaKingy included in their video a quick glimpse at the process behind putting them together, showing how they edited together standard Fortnite character assets to make it look like they were reacting to something new happening in the map.

Apologizing again to anyone who might have been duped by the fake leak, they closed things up by advising everyone not to set their hopes too high when it comes to leaked information. While a lot of Fortnite leaks turn out legit, there’s still no guarantee that every piece of unofficial information isn’t something someone put together just to mess around with the Fortnite community.

On the plus side, though, it won’t be much longer before fans can find out what’s actually coming to Fortnite in Season 2, as Season 2 is currently set to begin on February 20. No doubt there will be more leaks to speculate on in the future, both real and fake, but at the very least fans looking forward to concrete details will have those soon enough.

Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
