Kojima Wants to Make Something With 'New Media' | Game Rant
If there is one thing that Hideo Kojima is universally known for - outside of his impressive body of work - it's his uncanny ability to tease his fans with incredibly cryptic hints at new content. Recently on his Twitter page, Kojima discusses what he plans to do in the year 2020 and beyond.
Hideo Kojima is the creator of Death Stranding and a monumental presence in both the gaming industry and community. Kojima is also the creator of the critically acclaimed Metal Gear series, which as of September of 2019, has sold over 55 million copies worldwide.
As the year 2019 came to a close, Kojima took to Twitter to wish his fans a happy New Year and reflect upon his work with Death Stranding. He mentions how in 2020 he wants to move progressively forward with new concepts and ideas. Coming from someone like Kojima whose games are so intricate and confusing that at times even Kojima himself can't fully explain or understand them, this will certainly be a massive undertaking.
Though, more specifically, Kojima wants to create something with an entirely new form of media. He plans for this to be a completely different form of entertainment. This is not the first time Kojima has teased the idea of a new concept, but it is still unclear to anyone what his next piece of work could look like.
As with any Hideo Kojima teaser, these Tweets were met with a great deal of fan speculation. He mentions streaming and A.I., but did not really go into how those concepts could apply to whatever new project he's working on. In terms of gaming, when anyone thinks of new media, virtual reality may come to mind, so it's possible that Kojima might be working on a new virtual reality experience. Though, it is also likely that these Tweets could be in reference to the rumors that Kojima might be working with Konami on a new Silent Hill game.
Then again, there really is no room to interpret anything at this point. Hideo Kojima has always had a way of messing with people's heads, whether that's through his work or through social media. Kojima teased Death Stranding over the course of three years and during that time, not a single member of the gaming community could make heads or tails of what the game was supposed to be until its release. For now, fans will have to place their trust in Kojima's ability to create.
