Modern Warfare Dev Wants to Add More Weapon Customization Features

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received a lot of new updates last December. The reason for this was twofold: Infinity Ward wanted to kick off Season One of their battle pass strong by keeping the game up-to-date and bug-free, while also keeping the game fresh and exciting for players old and new. While Modern Warfare is unfortunately by no means bug-free right now, as seen by a recent bug involving a deadly chair in the game, Infinity Ward did stick to their word about updating the game every week in December.

Thankfully, those updates are still coming with the start of the new year. Maps and playlists are still being updated and rotated out, helping to keep Modern Warfare interesting for all the new players jumping in after the holiday season. Though, it seems the game might see a pretty big update to gun customization in the future, following some posts by one Infinity Ward developer on Reddit.

As mentioned at the top, Modern Warfare just recently had an update bringing back popular playlists and new modes. Specifically, Shoot House 24/7 makes a return, alongside a new game mode called Grind that acts a bit like the Kill Confirmed game mode of Call of Duty: Ghosts. However, a recent post from the game’s art director, Joel Emslie, makes it seem as though players can hopefully look forward to seeing some big changes to Modern Warfare’s gun customization aspects.

Emslie took to Reddit to discuss a fan showing off a custom skin for their Oden Assault Rifle, discussing how he liked their combination of different camos. Emslie said in regard to the skin, “I completely dig the way you can combine different camos with the Waifu Oden. Reminds me of the South African graffiti style from Die Antwoord in Chappie. South African gang style.” The gun in question was customized using Modern Warfare’s cosmetic blueprint system.

Additionally, Emslie responded to another user asking if a future update might allow players to use specific gun skins across different weapons. Emslie responded to this saying, “At some point in the future we are hoping to let you combine different blue print attachments together to Frankenstein weapons and then apply different camos.” That feature would be a great addition to the game, allowing players to experiment with their personal loadouts and customization.

Unfortunately, it may be awhile before players can expect to see this implemented into the game, as apparently the feature is “really buggy” right now, according to Emslie. The good news is that the team seems to be actively looking at and testing this new addition. Emslie also recently took to Reddit to confirm that another highly requested feature would be added to the game, specifically in the form of additional character class slots.

While it’s unclear when this feature may get added to Modern Warfare, it is clear to see that Infinity Ward is actively looking at it. This is only good news though, as having a developer look into heavily requested features from the community will only help to improve the overall online landscape of the game. Hopefully, Modern Warfare may see other highly requested features added to the game soon, like the ability to veto maps in multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
