Pokemon GO Valentine's Day Event Includes Tornadus, Woobat, and More

It's nearly February, and love is in the air in Pokemon GO...or, at the very least, a lot of pink Pokemon are. The next month is shaping up to be an eventful one for players, with new quests, Pokemon--including the legendary Tornadus--and a special Valentine's Day event with lure bonuses and more special Pokemon to catch in Pokemon GO.

Niantic will also be testing some new types of events this month, and there will be more than just Valentine's day and the regular monthly community day for Pokemon GO players to enjoy. Both legendary and non-legendary Pokemon are making their debut in the game this month, with special opportunities to catch them happening periodically throughout the month.

First off, Woobat is appearing in Pokemon GO for the first time ever as February's monthly Research Breakthrough reward, with bonus Woobat candies so that players can eventually evolve it into a Swoobat; both are psychic and flying-type Pokemon. Then there's the month's legendary Pokemon: Shadow Raikou, which players can rescue as they complete Giovanni Special Research encounters, and Tornadus, the first of the Force of Nature trio to be included in Pokemon GO. Players can catch a Tornadus as a tier 5 raid reward starting on February 4, and the Pokemon will stick around until February 25. Presumably, Tornadus's debut means that the other Force of Nature Pokemon, Thundurus and Landorus, won't be too far behind.

Pokemon GO's events begin with a Sinnoh region event running from February 7 until February 10, with Pokemon originating in that region appearing more in the wild and in raids, and all 7m eggs hatching Shinnoh Pokemon (including Budew, Bronzor, Combee, Gible, Hippopotas, Mantyke, and Riolu). The big Valentine's Day event actually runs from February 14 through 17, and it'll feature pink Pokemon, double catch candy, and two brand new shiny Pokemon: Audino and Alomomola. But for those who don't like celebrating Valentine's, Pokemon GO is also having a special friendship weekend event from February 21 through 24; during that time, friendship levels will increase faster and players will be able to carry up to 20 gifts in their inventory (and open up forty of them).

Pokemon GO is available for Android and iOS.
