Resident Evil 3 Remake Will Have Improved Nemesis AI | Game Rant

Resident Evil 3 is just a few months away from launching, and slowly but surely Capcom is preparing fans for the changes the remake will bring. This week, it went into further detail on that, touching upon how it will approach one of the most iconic parts of the original Resident Evil 3: the hulking bio-engineered supersolider known as Nemesis.

Anyone who played the PS1 version of RE3 back in 1999 will remember the terror of being frequently chased by the unstoppable Tyrant armed with an increasingly deadly arsenal of weapons. Though his appearances back then were scripted, a feature in this month’s issue of PlayStation Magazine UK confirms that 2020’s version of Nemesis will be driven by an updated AI that will make him much more unpredictable.

Unsurprisingly, for this game Capcom is building off the AI technology it employed last year to make Resident Evil 2’s Mr. X such a relentless threat to players. But whereas Mr. X was tied to specific sections of that game, producer Peter Fabiano says Nemesis will be free to roam around the RE3 remake’s version of Raccoon City. This means players will have to extra careful exploring the zombie-infested map (which Fabiano says will be noticeably larger than in the original), because they’ll never know for sure where he’ll show up next.

Unfortunately, not all of the news the magazine feature has to reveal will please longtime fans like the improvements being made to Nemesis. It’s also been confirmed that the fan-favorite challenge-based minigame Mercenaries won’t be included in the Resident Evil 3 remake. Most likely, this is being done to allow Capcom to focus on the other extra content being added to RE3, like the multiplayer spinoff Resident Evil Resistance.

Add to that the fact that Resident Evil 3 will be removing some aspects of the original story, and it looks like Capcom isn’t afraid to remove some content in order to give the rest room to breathe and grow. It did something similar with Resident Evil 2, carefully streamlining the experience overall, to great success, and it’s likely the same approach will do wonders for its followup.

Resident Evil 3 will be out on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
