5 PSVR Games That Would Be Great for PS Plus | Game Rant

PS Plus subscribers have been excited for February’s line-up of downloadable games ever since it was revealed. In addition to The Bioshock Collection and The Sims 4, users of the service will be treated to Firewall Zero Hour, an FPS VR game for PSVR. Though Sony has experimented with putting PSVR titles on the service in the past, it never truly committed to a consistent plan in which subscribers get a PSVR title every month (or even every other month). Though only over five million PSVR units have sold so far, PS Plus could convince more subscribers to buy one.

As of now, there have only been four PSVR games that have been featured on PS Plus, and they are RIGS Mechanized Combat League, Until Dawn Rush of Blood, Here They Lie, and now Firewall Zero Hour. If Sony decides to stick with the plan of putting a PSVR game on PS Plus consistently, then it should start with these five great PSVR games.

2018’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission is still frequently regarded as one of the greatest games to be available on PSVR. The PSVR exclusive was developed by Sony Japan and currently sits at a Metacritic score of 90. The game is a single player platformer with elements of puzzles and utilizes the movement of the PSVR unit in order to manipulate the camera (which could come in handy when needing to look around objects). Besides being a great game, there is another reason why this title is a good pick for PS Plus.

This month’s PS Plus addition of Firewall Zero Hour sets a precedent for other PSVR games from 2018 to appear on the service. Two years after the launch of a game is enough time to bring it back into the public eye. 2018 had a few great PSVR titles so the next few games listed here should stack up nicely.

Moss is another great game that came out in 2018 on PSVR and is another example of a great pick for Sony to add to the PS Plus line-up of downloadable games. It currently has a score of 85 on Metacritic and was nominated for several awards in the year of its release. The game revolves around the player controlling and interacting with Quill, a little mouse whose uncle is captured and must be rescued. As the overseeing narrator, the player guides Quill around obstacles and puzzles and must help the mouse deal with bothersome enemies; Moss is a great title that would benefit from more exposure on PS Plus.

Another great VR game from 2018 is Enhance Games’ Tetris Effect which was made with producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi of Rez fame. Tetris Effect currently sits at a Metacritic score of 89 and is hailed as another brilliant version of the classic tetromino stacking puzzle game. Although the game isn’t built exclusively for VR or PS4 and can be played without one, the game’s compatibility with VR headsets gives it an experience unlike any other. When set up with PSVR, a good pair of headphones, and the Dualshock 4, Tetris Effect creates a symphony of sensations with its striking visuals and its physically pulsating soundtrack.

This is another game that can be played without PSVR but when played with it creates a much more intimate and intense experience. 2017’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, developed by Capcom, is the only mainline Resident Evil game to be playable entirely in first-person and Capcom made sure that it took advantage of the PSVR because of it. This game would make a great addition to PS Plus regardless of its PSVR compatibility but its ability to be playable in VR makes it even more enticing. With Resident Evil 3 coming out in April, this game would be a great refresher too.

Superhot is an indie game that struck it big when it launched and got popular in 2016. It didn’t come out on PS4 until a year later, but it made an impression on people with a Metacritic score of 82 anyway. The main gimmick of the game is that objects such as bullets only move when the player does which creates a lot of Matrix-like moments. The game felt right at home when it got a PSVR version and re-released as Superhot VR. The motion based gameplay translates well as players are able to use their head and arms to slowly dodge bullets. Firewall Zero Hour is only the fourth PSVR game to be featured on PS Plus. If Sony decides to keep adding more of those titles to the service, it would make it that much more enticing especially in the months leading up to PS5.

Firewall Zero Hour for PSVR is available on PS Plus alongside The Bioshock Collection and The Sims 4 from February 4 to March 2, 2020.
