Apex Legends Original Map is Returning Tomorrow | Game Rant
Apex Legends has had a successful fourth season thus far, filled with events, a new Legend, and a brand new battle pass. As a very welcome and added surprise, Respawn has announced through a Tweet that the fan-favorite map, Kings Canyon, will be returning to Apex Legends for a limited time from February 21, 2020, through February 24, 2020.
Kings Canyon was the map of play for Apex Legends from the launch of the game through Season 2. Once Season 3 rolled around, the new map World's Edge was launched, and Kings Canyon was temporarily put aside. World's Edge is a larger map, filled with varied biomes, but many fans miss the classic feel of Kings Canyon. Other than an occasional limited-time mode, like what is taking place this weekend, Kings Canyon isn't available to play.
An interesting thing to note about this weekend's version of the Kings Canyon map is that it is specifically from Season 1. Between Season 1: Wild Frontier and Season 2: Battle Charge of Apex Legends, Kings Canyon saw some rather large map changes. But because this weekend will see the Wild Frontier version of Kings Canyon, players will be able to enjoy places of the map that weren't destroyed by the Season 2 overhaul like Bridges and Cascades (which was specifically altered thanks to shenanigans by the Legend Crypto).
This weekend will be a great opportunity to practice for the upcoming ranked changes in Apex Legends. Currently, the ranked mode takes place on Worlds Edge, but on March 24, the map will change over to Kings Canyon for ranked play and will remain on that map for the rest of Season 4.
Apex Legends recently had its first birthday, and Respawn has continued to evolve the game, make updates and improvements, and add new content. An example of that is the newest Legend, Revenant, who hasn't yet been playable on Kings Canyon, so it will be interesting to see how he plays over the weekend and with the ranked changes coming soon.
This weekend is just another example of how Respawn continues to keep Apex Legends relevant. Fans are already feeling nostalgic about a map that is less than a year old, and Respawn is dipping into that nostalgia by creating a limited-time mode that players will no doubt enjoy. A lot of the game has changed, including the Apex Legends weapon Meta and new available Legends. If players want to slay-out on Worlds Edge this weekend, they can do that as well, as Kings Canyon will be its own limited-time playlist.
Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
