Every Rumored Release Date For Grand Theft Auto 6 | Game Rant
Over the past few years, the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been rumored to have leaked many times which leaves fans wondering just when they can expect the next blockbuster title from Rockstar Games. Many predictions have generally pointed to either this year or the next, but the likelihood of such a release date is still pretty slim. Rockstar’s most recent game was Red Dead Redemption 2 which came out in 2018, and the studio still regularly updates Grand Theft Auto Online.
This means that if Grand Theft Auto 6 really is imminent, then Rockstar’s employees have been working extremely hard for a long time, juggling these three major projects at the same time. Even if the game eventually came out as late as 2023 (which one analyst has predicted), it would still cause Rockstar to juggle a bunch of different projects at once. Though a 2023 release date seems a bit late, and is in fact the 10th year anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 5, it does appear more feasible than some of the other hungrier predictions out there. Here are some of the rumored release windows of Grand Theft Auto 6.
A rumor from last year which was found on the site Pastebin suggested the Grand Theft Auto 6 would be released as early as the holiday season of 2020. This would put it in line with the confirmed launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X which are also due to arrive sometime during the holiday season of this year. The rumor boldly claims that the highly anticipated title will be a PS5 launch exclusive for a month, and it also suggested that the game would take place across both Vice City and Liberty City.
Some other rumors putting the game in 2020 include one that sprouted after a post by the hip hop group City Morgue, another one that came about from a fake PlayStation advertisement (in Spanish), one that started after an alleged GTA 6 leak from an Austrian video game retailer, and one that spawned from a strange Reddit theory about how GTA 5’s Diamond Casino Heist DLC hinted at GTA 6.
The first hint at a 2021 release window for Grand Theft Auto 6 comes from an insightful tidbit from Steven Ogg, the actor who played Trevor in Grand Theft Auto 5 and who speculated that the new game would be coming soon. Ogg appeared at Brasil Game Show 2019 where he stated “games take seven to eight years to make, do the math,” in reference to GTA 5 being released more than six years ago in 2013.
This thought makes sense for the most par, but again, Rockstar does have a couple of projects to handle simultaneously so if it does come out in 2021, it would have to come out toward the latter half of the year. A rumor backing up this idea comes from Twitter user PSErebus who suggests that the title is slated to release during the holiday season of 2021, which was also supported by a statement from a former employee at Rockstar Games.
The main source backing up the idea that Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming out in 2022 is Alex Giaimo, an analyst from financial services company Jefferies. The analyst predicted that GTA 6 should be expected no earlier than the end of fiscal year 2022, meaning that GTA 6 is likely to come out toward the latter half of that year or possibly even into 2023.
Again, though 2023 seems like a late release date, Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two, are clearly in no rush to put out a new game in the GTA franchise when Grand Theft Auto Online is proving to be an extremely lucrative product for the companies (raking in over one billion dollars in revenue at this point). Rockstar has mastered its marketing strategies for its own games and whenever Grand Theft Auto 6 is eventually and finally revealed, the world over will probably know how and when to get the game when it comes out.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be in development.
