Last of Us Director Jokes About Part 2’s Delay | Game Rant
When fans first heard the news that The Last of Us 2 would be delayed to May 29, 2020 it was a pretty tough pill to swallow. The news came late last year in October straight from the director of the game, Neil Druckmann, in a post on PlayStation Blog. Fans have been waiting quite a while for the sequel to the widely acclaimed first title, The Last of Us.
Since the delay, fans have been keeping themselves occupied in various ways, such as creating awesome artworks based on The Last of Us. Today must be a particularly somber day for fans of The Last of Us 2, as February 21 was the day that PlayStation fans were originally supposed to get their hands on the sequel. While the development team must be disappointed too, Druckmann took to Twitter to poke fun at the game’s delay.
While fans already know a lot about The Last of Us 2, there are still plenty of things yet to be revealed meaning there is still plenty to look forward to. Additionally, Naughty Dog is no doubt still polishing up the remaining elements of the title. However, Druckmann took the time to acknowledge the situation on Twitter saying, “Something’s missing today...can’t put my finger on what exactly...”
While the tweet may sting for some fans, it is kind of refreshing to see the director of the game make light of the unfortunate situation that are game delays. One small consolation for fans was a Last of Us 2 dynamic theme released on the PS Store, which is a fantastic piece of art that celebrates the game. On the other hand, the development team no doubt has their fair share of hang-ups regarding the delay.
At the end of the day, Druckmann’s tweet simple seems like a fun, albeit tongue-in-cheek way of acknowledging the original release date. It seems like they are doing what they can to appease fans, even working closely with PlayStation to make sure the special Ellie Edition would be restocked for dedicated fans. While fans will have to wait just a bit longer, The Last of Us 2 will be here before they know it.
