Persona 5: Every Phantom Thief Costume, Ranked | Game Rant

Persona 5 is a game that's absolutely dripping with style and flair, and its character design plays a large role in its popularity. The Phantom Thieves are great characters, and everyone has their own personal favorites depending on who they spent the most time with during their playthrough.

When they're not in their Shujin Academy uniforms, each Phantom Thief has their own unique outfit that represents their personality. Everyone's outfits vary wildly from each other, and practically the only thing tying them all together is the masks. These are the best Phantom Thief outfits in Persona 5, including the original cast as well as the new party member from Persona 5 Royal.

10 Morgana

One of the founding members of the Phantom Thieves, Morgana has been with the team through it all. Unlike the other original Phantom Thieves, however, Morgana's costume is lacking. It's really not even much of a costume when you think about it. All it is is a yellow bandana and a utility belt, which is pretty tame compared to the rest of the team's costumes.

Morgana's costume isn't outright bad by any means, it's just very tame compared to the other Phantom Thieves, earning it the lowest spot on this list.

9 Futaba

Futaba doesn't get a lot of screentime during the dungeon crawling parts of Persona 5 due to her more support oriented role on the team, and her costume represents her affinity for technology and hacking. Her black and green jumpsuit mirrors the design of circuit boards and wires, and her giant red goggles are the cherry on top of her techy outfit.

Like Morgana's costume, there isn't a whole lot going on, but at least there's something more than a bandana with Futaba. Still, the other Phantom Thieves have much more elaborate getups, leaving Futaba with a lower spot on this list.

8 Ann

Of the Phantom Thieves that actually see combat, Ann has one of the weakest costumes in the entire game. She's one of the founding Phantom Thieves, like Joker, Ryuji, and Morgana, so naturally, her costume is pretty basic. It's just a red jumpsuit with tons of zippers on it.

Still, basic doesn't have to mean boring. Joker and Ryuji have standard looking outfits, but their color schemes are more appealing and their outfits have much more going on design-wise. Ann's costume is literally just a jumpsuit with an excessive amount of zippers, making it one of the weakest outfits in the game.

7 Yusuke

From here on out, every Phantom Thief costume on this list is excellent in its own right, featuring intricate designs and bright flashy colors. Yusuke's costume perfectly represents him as an artist. It's understated in an elegant sort of way, only placing splashes of color and carefully placed lines exactly where they need to be.

It also matches wonderfully with his persona, Goemon, which is totally something Yusuke would care about. You can tell a lot about Yusuke's personality and character just by looking at his Phantom Thief costume, which is exactly what a costume should do for a character.

6 Makoto

Much like Ann, Makoto's Phantom Thief costume is a jumpsuit comprised of primarily one color, but there are tons of extra details that really give the costume some added flair. Unlike her surface-level appearance as the straight-laced student council president, Makoto's Phantom Thief alter ego is rebellious and outgoing, which is exemplified through her costume.

She wears all dark colors, mostly black with hints of slate gray, and her metal mask, iron knuckles, and steel-toed boots give her that extra edge that really hammers home her rebellious attitude. Her persona, which is a motorcycle, helps too, but it isn't technically a part of her costume, though.

5 Akechi

Akechi doesn't join the party until very late in the game, but once he does, he adds a lot to the Phantom Thieves team. His costume is unlike that of any other member, brandishing bright colors and heavy contrast. Everything about Akechi's costume is upbeat and colorful, which is very different from the dark and brooding outfits of the rest of the cast.

Of course, Akechi's cheery outfit and chipper attitude both play a role in his deception of the Phantom Thieves, but that doesn't mean it's not a great looking costume.

4 Ryuji

Considering Ryuji is one of the earliest characters to join the party in Persona 5, his outfit is fairly simple. He's the quintessential best friend character. He's headstrong but still somewhat down to earth, and his costume reflects that.

His costume mirrors Joker's outfit in many ways, primarily with the dark colors, but the red scarf and yellow gloves provide a splash of color that represents Ryuji's brash personality. The yellow gloves also represent his electric type attacks too, which is a nice touch.

3 Haru

Much like Akechi, Haru joins the Phantom Thieves very, very late in the game, and she gets very little screentime or development as a result. That's an unfortunate reality, especially considering how awesome her Phantom Thief costume is.

Although her codename may be Noir, her outfit is one of the few Phantom Thief costumes with color, and it helps Haru stand out from the rest of the roster. She's also the only Phantom Thief with a hat, too. Her elegant clothing creates a stark contrast with the giant axe and grenade launcher rounds she carries, making for an incredibly interesting design.

2 Kasumi

Kasumi is the new party member in the upcoming Persona 5 Royal, and while the game might not currently be available in the west, the trailers and marketing leading up to the game's release have shown enough of Kasumi to prove that she's one of the coolest members of the Phantom Thieves.

Her costume mirrors Joker's in many ways, so much so that some people were speculating her to be a playable female protagonist, similar to the one in Persona 3 Portable, before she was officially revealed to be an additional party member in Persona 5 Royal.

1 Joker

Joker's costume might not be the flashiest or the most detailed, but it's a classic design that tons of people recognize now thanks to his multiple appearances in several different games. His black coat and red gloves make up the absolute coolest outfit in the game, and his mask is iconic to Persona 5.

JRPG protagonists tend to have relatively plain designs compared to other party members, but Joker's Phantom Thief costume proves that plain isn't necessarily a bad thing. He might appear unassuming in his Shujin Academy uniform, but once it's time to infiltrate a palace, he's the coolest looking guy on the team.
