Pokemon Masters Bringing Back Iconic Trainer | Game Rant

With Mewtwo's return in Pokemon Sword and Shield in time for Pokemon Day, it has been a good time for Pokemon fans to look back over the last eight generations and reminisce. However, for those nostalgic trainers, Pokemon Masters has more exciting news in store.

While Pokemon Masters has taken the fandom by storm with its re-introduction of well-known trainers like Brock and Misty, developer DeNA revealed that it had gone all the way back to the beginning for its newest update. In its latest announcements, DeNA revealed that Red, the original protagonist from Pokemon Red and Blue, would be making his Pokemon Masters debut.

The news was announced through a teaser uploaded to the official Pokemon YouTube channel. In the teaser, Red appears with his signature Pokemon, Charizard, to face off against Professor Oak, who was added to Pokemon Masters for Valentine's Day. If it wasn't clear from Red's new Sygna Suit, the legendary trainer and Pokemon are the game's latest sync pair. The trailer confirms this information as the battle between Charizard and Oak's Mew begins. With a signal, Charizard undergoes a Mega Evolution into Mega Charizard X. This teaser ends with the announcement that both Red and Charizard are available now, and that Professor Oak will also be unlockable until March 16th for players who log in.

While Red's return to the Pokemon series has been long-awaited, it comes as no surprise. Although this is the trainer's in-game debut, Red was already present on Pokemon Masters' promotional art in 2019. The Pokemon Company had also previously promised to include every past trainer at some point. And since DeNA has continued the mobile game's narrative (new chapters will also be releasing soon), it was inevitable that while turning to past Pokemon stories, the developers might want to revisit the franchise's original characters. In fact, they already had when Blue was introduced to the game.

Overall, it's clear that Pokemon trainers have a lot to look forward to. While trying to unlock Red, Pokemon Masters players will also be able to unlock Professor Oak and the first Mythical Pokemon, Mew.

According to DeNA's other announcements, players will also be able to use the Battle Villa, a new game mode that allows players to go up against CPU trainers in a boss rush in a competition to see how many one can beat. With another new sync pair featuring fan favorite Oshawott on the way, players have a lot to look forward to.

Pokemon Masters is available now for free on Android and iOS.
