10 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do In Doom Eternal

It is once again time to rip and tear until it is done. Doom Eternal has arrived and you can practice murdering the demons that have taken over the Earth, just in case it comes to that.

Doom Eternal is one of the best first-person shooters to come out in this generation. The game has tons of features and cool activities in it, some more obvious than others. Doom Guy has a knack for finding hidden secrets, so it only seems fair the player gets to find some too.

10 Listen To Other Soundtracks

One of the collectibles in the game are soundtracks from older Doom and Id Software games on vinyl. Doom Guy doesn't come off as a hipster at first glance but you can listen to all of these sweet tunes while inside the Fortress of Doom, the main hub you go to in between missions.

Unfortunately, these vinyl albums can't be played during missions but finding all of the secrets and unlockables in the fortress can be time-consuming, so it's nice to switch up the music while roaming around or watching the cut scene for using a sentinel battery for the eighth time.

9 Skins

Doom Eternal features a wide variety of skins for both guns and Doom Guy himself. These can unlock by completing challenges for a battle pass style system the game has, completing in-game challenges or unlocking them in the Fortress of Doom using sentinel batteries.

The customization has to be done on the main menu for the game and you only get notified that you unlocked a new skin by going to the main menu, which is a little annoying. On the bright side, Doom Guy can rip and tear in style.

8 Replay Levels With Cheats

There is a level select system in the Fortress of Doom where you can replay any level in the game, to clean up secrets and challenges you may have missed the first time through. One of the collectibles in the game are cheat codes that can be activated when replaying levels.

All progress made with the cheat codes on is saved and counts normally, so you can activate them to make the game easier or just switch things up. The only restriction is that Slayer Gates cannot be completed with cheats on, so keep that in mind.

7 Unlock The Unmaykr

On the topic of Slayer Gates, the Unmaykr from Doom 64 is an unlockable weapon in Doom Eternal. The weapon is unlocked after completing all six Slayer Gates found throughout the campaign. Each Slayer Gate gives a key upon completion and all six keys unlock the Unmaykr inside the Fortress of Doom. It's the only weapon in the game not unlocked during the story.

It shares ammo with the BFG but shoots more like an automatic rifle. The BFG is probably a better weapon for actual combat but the Unmaykr is still pretty cool.

6 Play Doom And Doom II

Doom Guy has many modern amenities in the Fortress of Doom including a not so modern personal computer. This PC can play both the original Doom and Doom II, but it takes a little work to unlock them. Doom II can be played very easily by inputting the code "FLYNNTAGGART" into a specific file on the computer.

Doom requires the collection of every single floppy disk in the game. The floppy disk collectibles unlock cheat codes and can be found throughout the campaign so it might take a playthrough or two to find all of them.

5 Stack Extra Lives

This one is probably more time consuming than it's worth but if you're really struggling there is a way to stack extra lives in Doom Eternal. If you mission select from the main menu, all the extra lives you collected in the level will have respawned.

The fastest level is "Exultia" the second mission, where there is an extra life at the very beginning of the mission. After collecting it quit to the main menu and then mission select the same mission again, rinse and repeat. Make sure you do this directly after finishing a mission to avoid the possibility of losing progress.

4 Classic Weapon View

If you want your weapon directly in the center of the screen like the good old days it can be enabled at any point in the game. In the settings menu under the game tab in the weapons section, the option to stare down the barrel of all your weapons is available to be turned on and off whenever you feel like it.

Doom Eternal also technically has the classic weapon sounds, but that option is only available to people who bought the Deluxe Edition of the game.

3 Leave Slayer Gates for Later

The optional challenge arenas called Slayer Gates offer the highest level of combat in Doom Eternal. These challenges reward weapon points used for upgrades and keys that can unlock a new weapon. The challenges are pretty difficult, which is saying something since the main game can be pretty tough at times.

These challenges can be done whenever though, so if you are struggling too much with them, you can wait till later in the game and come back with all the weapons and upgrades you have unlocked by the end.

2 Adjust Difficulty Whenever

The other option for hard to beat Slayer Gates and combat sections is to lower the difficulty. Doom Eternal does not have achievements/trophies for beating the campaign on the higher difficulties so there is no incentive to play on the higher difficulties except for in-game challenges and personal enjoyment.

That said the lowest difficulty isn't crazy easy so tough parts might take some players a couple of attempts still.

1 Play Multiplayer

Doom (2016) had a very traditional competitive multiplayer where everyone played as there own Doom slayer and occasionally turned into a demon but Doom Eternal only had one mode.

It's a 2v1, Doom Guy versus two super demons, all controlled by players. Extra demons can be spawned in and the rounds are won by one team killing the other. It's probably not going to be your new go-to but it is still interesting enough to at least checkout.
