Apex Legends: 10 Tips And Tricks On Using Pistols | Game Rant
In general, pistols in shooters often serve as starting weapons or sidearms, which are easy to equip when needed. Their effectiveness is usually very limited, and it’s not a common thing to see a person maining a pistol. In Apex Legends, however, pistols serve a variety of purposes and can even be seen still being used in-game closer to the end of the match.
What makes pistols so special in Apex Legends? The major reason is that they are versatile, yet challenging to use and very skill-dependent. To make the most out of these promising weapons, here’s a list of tips and tricks you might find useful.
10 Early Efficiency
While you might think of pistols in Apex Legends as a means to diversify the available arsenal of weapons in the game, they actually serve a purpose. First and foremost, pistols are balanced in a way that you should be able to win early firefights due to their fast reloads. Never be scared by the enemy who’s just looted an assault rifle because you can finish the duel victoriously.
Short reload times make pistols very effective weapons for the spam-and-hide strategy. Obviously, you need some cover, but if you manage to take advantage of the surrounding environment, you’ll be able to turn any situation in your favor.
9 Saving On Inventory Slots
Pistols are not ammo consuming by any means since they don’t usually serve as primary weapons and therefore, don’t need too many spare rounds in your inventory. If you decide to keep a pistol in your loadout, you’ll need to carry no more than a couple of ammo stacks to feel confident. Whatever handgun you choose to rely on, it will always be your secondary one with the exception of Wingman.
Still, even the mighty revolver can be used to finish a weakened enemy after you’ve successfully emptied a whole magazine of your primary weapon. And the presence of Wingman in your loadout doesn’t cancel the rule of taking less inventory space.
8 The CQB-Drill
The RE-45 is the only fully automatic pistol, which can be considered an SMG of sorts. It is a great starting weapon for you to scare an opponent away with a precise burst or even down them if you're lucky. It does use tons of ammo fairly fast, but it perfectly aligns with the rule of occupying fewer inventory slots with ammo. Why? Simply because you won’t carry a RE-45 around long enough to feel the lack of light rounds.
That said, the RE-45 is strictly limited to use in close-quarters combat. It’s the only scenario to take advantage of the gun since its effective range does not go beyond a few meters.
7 Mozambique's Are Madness
While pistols could be useful and versatile given you are using them correctly, Mozambique is still a mess. Strictly speaking, it’s a hybrid of a pistol and a shotgun, but neither of them has lent the gun any superior features. It does reload somewhat fast, but Mozambique has just three mere shots in the magazine.
Even if you precisely land all of them, you won’t take down an enemy with a level 1 body armor. To knock them, one of your shots will have to hit the opponent’s head, which is a tough objective. Be prepared to lose a firefight wielding a Mozambique.
6 A Risky Endgame
If you like challenges, then Mozambique could be an interesting choice for you. The only option for the gun to be useful is to equip it with the Hammerpoint Rounds modification. With it, the stupid shotgun will become a fearful weapon, which can easily destroy an unshielded enemy within a shot or two. A headshot gives you a guaranteed kill, but you have to break the opponent’s armor first.
It is indeed a very risky play, but switching to Mozambique with Hammerpoint after you’ve unloaded your primary gun would be much faster than waiting for a reload. Still, you can end up in a situation when the enemy still has some shields left, which ultimately nullifies the advantage of the modification.
5 It Makes For A Skilled Endgame
To make the most out of Hammerpoint Rounds and successfully win a match, you could take another route, which is a bit more reliable compared to the Mozambique strategy. P2020 light pistol can also be upgraded with Hammerpoint, and while it obviously does significantly less damage, it is still a threatening weapon.
The major advantage over Mozambique is that P2020 has more rounds in a magazine and can be equipped with a larger one up to the epic rarity. And even if you miss a couple of shots it is still a lot less punishing since you have enough rounds left. You can actually carry this weapon until the endgame.
4 A Trusty Revolver
Finding a modification could be a tricky task but there’s an undemanding pistol, which is hugely effective right out of the box. It’s the popular Wingman, of course. Once you equip this weapon, the damage potential hidden in the base five-round magazine is big enough to down even a purple-shielded opponent if you hit all the shots. Unless it’s Caustic or Gibraltar, but even then an extended mag could be the solution.
Wingman is absolutely fantastic. You can either perform destructive CQB shootouts with it or precisely snipe at your enemies across half the map. And it could very well be your primary gun with a Peacekeeper as the secondary one.
3 Upgrade For Better Weapons
This is an obvious one. If you don’t feel comfortable with pistols, all you need is to survive the very first violent moments of the game until you find a weapon, which better suits your playstyle. No one forces you to learn how to handle pistols. Luckily, you can almost certainly upgrade for a higher tier weapon after a minute or two into the match.
Replacing pistols as fast as you can is general advice for new players who are yet to perfect their aiming skills. Even the powerful Wingman would be a silly “loose cannon” in your hands since you won’t be able to release its damage potential.
2 The Backup Plan
If a pistol does end up in your loadout, don’t put too much emphasis on it. Handguns are most commonly used as secondary weapons, so keep them just as a backup plan. RE-45 can become the vengeful spirit when your primary weapon is on a reload or is completely out of rounds. P2020 with Hammerpoint Rounds is a great secondary from every perspective.
Then again, Wingman can serve the purpose of being the last resort, or ultima ratio. Sometimes it takes just a single hit to kill the hurt enemy who’s fleeing away. A few semi-precise Wingman shots following them could effectively solve the problem of the opponent escaping justice.
1 Be Efficient
Still, being able to kill everyone you meet with whatever gun you have in your hands will be an extremely valuable skill. It requires a lot of effort and practice, but once you hit the sweet point of feeling comfortable and confident with a pistol, then you’ll be a menacing power on the battlefield. Even the notorious Mozambique won’t scare you away.
Practice makes perfect, so don’t be afraid to train through trial and error. And very soon you’ll realize that having a modified P2020 or Wingman in your hands doesn’t make them sweaty anymore.
