Jedi Academy Patch Will Separate PC and Console Players
Upon the recent launch of Stars War Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for PS4 and Switch, players became quickly aware of an unusual bug in the system: console players could participate in cross-play with PC players, who've had access to the game for much longer.
Jedi Academy may have just released for current-gen consoles over a week ago, but the game actually dates back to 2003, when it released for PC. So, when developer Aspyr Media re-released the game and enabled cross-play between PS4 and Switch, they unknowingly allowed PC players into the mix by default as well.
New players enthusiastically took to Jedi Knight when it released, as no other Star Wars game puts quite as much focus on multiplayer lightsaber combat. However, the accidental PC crossplay has most definitely thrown new players off: facing down a PC veteran with two decades of experience under their belts isn't ideal for a PS4 player who just picked up the game. Some veteran players just want to game with the newcomers and have a good time, but others are deliberately fighting as unfairly as possible; naturally, some console players are upset by this development.
Between that and the advantage of using a keyboard and mouse versus a console controller, Aspyr has quickly decided to separate players. As such, Aspyr is currently working on a patch for the Star Wars game that will close that loophole, and level out the playing field for all players. However, there's currently no projected release date for the patch; Aspyr has merely promised that it'll come "soon."
Hopefully, console players will be able to weather the toxic players currently lingering in the Jedi Academy server until Aspyr can step in.
Stars War Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is available now for PC, PS4, and Switch.
